Could the clutch drum notch have been defective (ramped edge) allowing the worm gear arm to slip out?

More like the clutch drum wasn't lined up with the worm gear arm during assembly. Been there and ruined the drum and worm gear for my trouble.

Thankfully it looks ok.

If it were me, I'd install the drum over the needle bearing/crankshaft and rock it from side to side to check if the bore in the drum is OK. In my case, the bore was galled out by the drum rim riding on top of the worm gear lever instead of being engaged.

Well kinda looking like husky has increased the msrp on saws. A 572 was 940 ish locally now they are 1019$ so getting much closer to the ms462 in price actually almost identical to the ms461 in price right now.

So you were the guy that sent that out to me?
J/k.
A had one that was squashed from a builder, once.
The bugger still oiled up to a few days, I think?
It certainly oiled for some time. Weird!
Then melted.

I get it, sh*t happens.

Better to Jack off a Lion with a hand full of snicker bars than ever F* with me while I'm working.
