Close enough to a show pony if you ask me!!

Btw. I reckon the 6 gram difference is all around the wrist pin bosses.

Yeah, I recal having a discussion about 064 pistons with Jason and he said the Meteor is a great piston but the wrist pin bosses are over done and make the piston heavy.
Looks like its the same with 044 slugs
There is also a lot of additional metal in those wings

Nothing a dremel wont fix :)

The runner thats in the mail is a nicer saw.

I'm thinking of stripping them both down and building one really nice saw using the best bits, and putting the rest in a box as spares.

But...... my boxes of spares usually end up as running saws

i guess they make them with bigger bosses so it can be machined to either a 10 or 12mm pin piston.

I would leave those wings on the piston. They came on the KS original pistons, and they run just great!

I hear they are to help stabilize the piston, but I would not be surprised if they also don't help air/fuel flow some how.

That is just a theory of mine, but the saw with the winged piston just runs great!

The 044 just showed up.
Looks all original, still has the OEM piston with machine marks and lots of compression

Cylinder is a KS ++ "A" cylinder

Is that good?

I think I will give it a run stock to get a feel for how it goes and then tear it down for a full rebuild just so I know its all good and will be reliable.

Has anyone put a 2nd port on the other side of the muffler?
I have a few @Red97 baffles and want to keep the closed front muffler cover on it.

I get them very cheap, and order em 4 at a time. Get the whole muffler with it, but usually just use the cover.

On ebay got 4 (440/460) dp mufflers, from China, shipped, $41.-. At just over $10 each, it is not worth making a port!

I wish I could take some pictures, but my phone died and it may be a while before work gets me a replacement.

May have to charge up the Canon EOS 5D Mk111

Tested compression and its at 155 psi so fairly healthy for a used saw.
I will be happier to see the dial go to 180 - 190 though.
Will be ordering some new seals, gaskets, carb kits and cabers tonight for both the saws.

Are the stock carbs well up to the task once ported or is there a better option worth persuing?

Stock carbs are usually just fine, and a gasket delete often results in 20/1000 squish, a nice feature!
