Got a Stihl 024S that idles fine, rev it up and it idles high for a little while, put it down or change the angle it idles low. Tried adjusting the carb, no good. P&v tested it again hoping it was a seal. Didnt drop a pound. Spark plug is tan, new fuel line and filter. Its like the fuel is erratic. Could it be the carb?

Lean out the L screw a touch (1/8 turn or so) and see what that does.

OR. Try a known good carb for comparison. Could be pop off pressure adjustment.

I'll just throw seals in it just to be sure. Might as well replace the clutch springs while I'm in there. I'll have to look to see if I've got another 024 carb. If not, its no problem to rebuild it. Got too many projects. Got someone dumping some recycled concrete at my place, tree guy dumped wood where its going. Gotta move all that wood.

I have chased this on an 026. I guess the known fix is a lip on the intake needs to be ground out. there is a fuel puddling problem. I don't know if it applies to the 024s also.

also heard advanced ignition makes the idle finicky on these saws.

bottom lip of the intake port where it meets the cylinder wall.
caveat emptor. I am regurgitating knowledge but it is worth what you paid for it. Sounds like just a little sanding and beveling will take care of it. It really won't harm anything.
Please let me know if its the fix.

Bon chance

Well, it doesnt have a timing advance, so they way I'll do it to see if 1 remedy fixes it will be carb rebuild, grinding intake, then seals. 1 of ems got to fix it. Unless I got a bum fuel filter.

Yeah, maybe the impulse has some kind of blockage. I think if it was that though it would shiw up in a p&v test.

Dont know until I get home. I've got an 026 Pro that likes to puddle, but that got a whole different set of symptoms than this one...
