I am watching a show on PBS called
Great Scenic Railroad Journeys, 150 Years on the Right Track
Showing the steam powered scenic route trains running in the US today.
Worth the watch if you get a chance.
Another interesting thing that hung on for years.
In time long pas laundry day was always on Wednesdays. The reason was that the trains in Britain didn't run then so you cud hang your wash out and not have it covered in soot.
When I was little everyone in our neighborhood in Toronto still did their was on Wednesdays. I'll bet not a one of the mothers knew why that was the traditional day.
I saw that on Ruth Goodman's Full Steam Ahead series.
I didn't realize there is another S3 "Northern" loco like UP 844 running the odd excursion in Minneapolis.
