Given the choice between a 241 and 261 I would opt for the 261. It’s in a sweet spot being able to fulfill the role as a light limber that the 241 is and also be able to handle more like what I would use a 60cc saw for. Makes sense that Snelling would choose the 241 since he has a affinity towards the 346 for a 50cc saw. Me, I don’t want a 40, 50, and 60. I’ve already done that in several different genres/combos of saws. I’d rather have 1 and eliminate the other 2. I also feel the gap between the 241 and my 440/46 hybrid (weight and power wise) is too great for my intended application. Sure it would be nice to own the perfect saw for the job, but I’m over having 10s of thousands of dollars ties up on saws. Lastly I would choose the 261 over the 241 bc I can get a 261 arctic. Stihl doesn’t offer. A 241 in arctic on North America, and I’m not sure they offer it anywhere in the world.

For the $ they are hard to beat imhoThis thread just popped up on my phone,... I haven't read it, just wanted to say a ported dolmar 421 is a huge underestimated wow factor

Randy just likes to grind the guts outta poor skeered chainsaws.
My MMWS261 will suprize you. Lighter than my MMWS361 and will cut as fast up to 16, 18" With .325 chain on the 261 it feels faster in smaller stuff.
Bury the 18" bar and it still cuts great but it's just too easy to fire up a MMWS361 or MOFO361 or the MMWS460.

You can cut a long time with a 241, or a 421(even though some won't accept that as an option, I do).Just mentioning in passing, but my MOFO 026 and 036 seem to offer more power but are still very fuel efficient. That was one of the first things I mentioned to Doc when asked. He said other guys said the same thing.
My ported 026 is as fuel efficient as a stock 026.
Just my observations.

Me too, same power, similar size, $200 cheaper! Sounds like a win to me!You can cut a long time with a 241, or a 421(even though some won't accept that as an option, I do).
I bet. Probably even cut a little longer with the 241 vs. 261. Just makes sense. You can cut a long time with a 241, or a 421(even though some won't accept that as an option, I do).
Great little saws, hard to beat for the price.Me too, same power, similar size, $200 cheaper! Sounds like a win to me!
For me it was the 550 that stopped me from using the 346 as often, at least when on jobs. I still like the 346 for firewood as it handles better to me, when the saws are smaller handling isn't as big of a deal.I rarely use my 346 now that I have a ported 241.
Never was impressed with a 242.
Not sure on that, usually it's about the same run time on a tank as they just make the tanks bigger on the larger saws. What's different is I find I'm cutting a lot of smaller branches I need to move when brushing a tree out so I have to stop often to do so which means it idles more per tank and that can lead to a tank lasting quite a while.I bet. Probably even cut a little longer with the 241 vs. 261. Just makes sense.
