Given the choice between a 241 and 261 I would opt for the 261. It’s in a sweet spot being able to fulfill the role as a light limber that the 241 is and also be able to handle more like what I would use a 60cc saw for. Makes sense that Snelling would choose the 241 since he has a affinity towards the 346 for a 50cc saw. Me, I don’t want a 40, 50, and 60. I’ve already done that in several different genres/combos of saws. I’d rather have 1 and eliminate the other 2. I also feel the gap between the 241 and my 440/46 hybrid (weight and power wise) is too great for my intended application. Sure it would be nice to own the perfect saw for the job, but I’m over having 10s of thousands of dollars tied up on saws. Lastly I would choose the 261 over the 241 bc I can get a 261 arctic. Stihl doesn’t offer a 241 in arctic on North America, and I’m not sure they offer it anywhere in the world.

There are 241 arctics offered in Europe not sure about other countries. But I don’t believe there is currently any plans to bring them to North America

This thread just popped up on my phone,... I haven't read it, just wanted to say a ported dolmar 421 is a huge underestimated wow factor

A 241/543 are overpriced for a 40cc saw imo. If they were closer to the price of a 421 I would consider them. I’ve ran a 543 and it was good but not 150$ better than a 421. The 241 does seem like a nice saw however and I want to try one someday. For starters the top cover seems a lot easier to remove for maintenance and the filter better than the 543/421.

The 421 weighs nearly as much as a 261 or even a 550, so not a consideration to me.

I'm thinking of getting a 241-cm, I do a lot of work with ms261's and ported they are pretty sweet but a 241 unmodified can do a bunch of cutting per tank.

Just mentioning in passing, but my MOFO 026 and 036 seem to offer more power but are still very fuel efficient. That was one of the first things I mentioned to Doc when asked. He said other guys said the same thing.
My ported 026 is as fuel efficient as a stock 026.
Just my observations.

Randy just likes to grind the guts outta poor skeered chainsaws.

My MMWS261 will suprize you. Lighter than my MMWS361 and will cut as fast up to 16, 18" With .325 chain on the 261 it feels faster in smaller stuff.
Bury the 18" bar and it still cuts great but it's just too easy to fire up a MMWS361 or MOFO361 or the MMWS460.

One of the voices in my head says i need a carbed 461

Well you did buy one once... [emoji30]

You can cut a long time with a 241, or a 421(even though some won't accept that as an option, I do).

Couldn’t agree more Brett. I’ve never run a 421 but I’m beyond happy with my ported 241. I run a 16” bar but would have no reservations about running an 18 on it at all. I use it probably as much as any other saw I own.

Me too, same power, similar size, $200 cheaper! Sounds like a win to me!
Great little saws, hard to beat for the price.
If you notice you don't see used 241's or 421's come up for sale often, that says a lot to me about them both.
I'll be running mine on the job I have coming up as it's a good bit quieter than the ported 241 and much of the work is between two houses in a nice development so the 241 will be the backup, it's usually the other way around.
I rarely use my 346 now that I have a ported 241.

Never was impressed with a 242.
For me it was the 550 that stopped me from using the 346 as often, at least when on jobs. I still like the 346 for firewood as it handles better to me, when the saws are smaller handling isn't as big of a deal.
I bet. Probably even cut a little longer with the 241 vs. 261. Just makes sense.
Not sure on that, usually it's about the same run time on a tank as they just make the tanks bigger on the larger saws. What's different is I find I'm cutting a lot of smaller branches I need to move when brushing a tree out so I have to stop often to do so which means it idles more per tank and that can lead to a tank lasting quite a while.
I never had a chance to run the 241/261 side by side much as I sold the stock 261cm vrII I had a couple weeks after getting it, the 550 did just as well with 325x18 so I saw no need as I prefer the handling of the huskys, Id guess you would do the exact opposite, both run well and sip fuel.
