Finally finished the plumbing, built a vanity for the sink, installed a tankless water heater and propane line to a 100lb tank.
Well puts out about 100 gallons a day. Tested for E-coli, arsnic, lead, Mercury and about a dozen other things. Water is good! No contaminates!

Drilled the well myself down to 14 feet. Have less than $500 in it including auger, pump and casing.

Took a shower in my own cabin for the first time yesterday. Beats paying for showers at the local laundry mat.

Must be an above ground pump? How do you prevent freezing, or does it all drain?

We have been considering options for my Cabin in the Catskills, which is off the grid (2 mi up the mountain on a 4WD road).

No chainsaw, did use my Sawzall though!

"Let's fix the problem with the floor" says the wife..

Next thing you know were taking out walls.

She had the first swing on the drywall and ended doing about half the work. This old house has some issues, but were working on it

Don’t you love how old house projects seem to grow once you start on them?

Dropped 2 Black Cherry and 2 Red Maple trees … started at 9:00 and they were all down, limbed and bucked by 12:00.

The one in the pic had to be placed between the shed and the deck. All 4 went down on the money.

Well that was easy! What are you going to do tomorrow?
Looks like I'm still going to work on the same saw, saw runs better but still not right. Carburetor was changed to a HDC but I noticed it won't hold pressure so I'm hunting locally for another carb. Was told the HDC might have the wrong kit in it so guess I'll take it apart again and check that out first...

Getting rid of the sticks so that I can have some fun with the larger diameter beech logs.

Some entertainment in form of selected background music helps a lot.

What is the consensus on Ash as firewood?
Mixed opinions in my area, mostly negative.
I got a reduced price for accepting some 6 ash logs in my firewood load, it will get burned mixed with beech and oak.

I have gotten a lot of Ash since they are are all getting killed from the Ash boring beetles. Ash burns nicely and I mix it with red oak and locust.

I will take ash over oak
Burns good and way less ashes
Plus green ash will burn ok so does not have to be as dry as oak [emoji106]

Ash is pretty much all i burn. Can pretty much burn soon as split. Not much drying time needed if in a pinch.

Ash dries faster than almost any other hardwood, Black Walnut does also.

Ash has a lot of BTUs, but does not coal up as nicely as some other wood.

IMO, Ash produces a lot of ashes compared to other hardwoods.

How much you do or don't like it may depend on your stove / stove set up.

Been working on a Husky 50 off and on for the past month. Ordered a new-old-stock, small bore, single stack Tillotson carburetor for it. It didn't run well. I found the inlet needle pop-off pressure set around 21 psi and the fuel pump pulse nipple on the intake leaking. After I get all that stuff fixed it may run more than 5 seconds.
