Some people have splitters that can handle tree stumps, but sometimes the number of knives needs to be reduced

A multi split wedge would be great for camp wood and fireplaces. I have a boiler so I only want it small enough that I can pick it up and get it through the door. As the years go by that is smaller and smaller.

I seem to split smaller than my neighbor. It's not a matter of strength. Smaller wood is easier to handle, no matter who has to load the our boiler. The six way on the old tw-2 works great until I get to the knotty stuff. Anybody have any experience with the open box wedge on the newer timberwolves?

I have a Margay sidewinder that is pretty decent but someone put a 4 stroke on it. They did not damage it though. I have a Margay from the 80's or 90's also but it is not great. I have lots of McCulloch manifolds, carbs, etc. I also have a Margay gearbox for a 101.

Be sure a start a thread on the build!! That thing is massive. Specs??
A lot of it is already done and I've had it running with a 5in cylinder already before I blew the piston off the back of the cylinder.
Running a 100hp chevy vega motor, 2 stage 28gpm pump, and now a 6in cylinder with a 36in stroke and a 12 way wedge. 3000psi at the pump it will make 42ton at the cylinder which is where I plan on running it but if needed 3500psi which is still in safe zone is 50ton. I rather blow the wedge off then have to worry about what kind of wood I put through it so I'll get some knotty stuff and see where it needs set.

I agree, it will take a helluva pump to push oil to it but it will be a nice splitter, especially with a 12 way wedge.
ya will see how fast it is with the 6in cylinder as I'm gonna lose some speed but with the longer stroke I can put 2 18in logs in at one time and make 24 pieces on every stroke. Calculation say my cycle time is going to go from 11.4 seconds to 16.2 seconds. If I knew I was gonna be running a 6in or bigger cylinder I would have probably got a 50gpm 2 stage pump to start with and built around that not that 50 pieces a minute is bad.
