Hey there folks, just wanted to start a thread on the saw's I am working on for the raffle for Jon and his family. I'm rebuilding and porting a Husqvarna 254xp for @Dub11 entry into the raffle. Also will be repairing a Stihl 032AV for my entry into the raffle. Once caught up, will be a progress report of sorts.
While I am not an OG Riff Raff by any means, make no mistake, a bunch of Riff Raff has been helping out with anything that was needed. So these are bonafide Riff Raff saw's. They will be mentioned along the way.

Proceeded to get some timing numbers and make a plan.

Then proceeded to make a terrific screw up in the execution of the plan. Machining and porting went fine but while sanding the squish band a peice of grit went completely rogue and cut a groove in the cylinder, ruining it. So after talking with Wayne, he had another and sent it to me, to appease the Saw God's and keep them happy, I sent Wayne a 272 cylinder out of my stash to make amends for my error.

Not being 100% sure what went wrong the first time, I surely wasn't too eager to repeat the process. So I got ahold of Kevin @huskihl to machine the band for me. Which he graciously did and returned it in fine shape. I was able to machine the base and port it with some help from Randy @Termitebuffet ideas.

A set of Johnny hand grips I had lying about went on the tank handle. Figured that this would let it look like the newer saws from Husqvarna. We decided that the look was good and not just for who it was for.

Starter was worked over and put back to a working condition.

Keep that old jug,I have done that on my own saw. Kicked myself.

I ran it anyways. Compression was decent.
;) Runs pretty good too.

While true it would have ran, it was decided not to give to someone and have the plating come off on them and have a ruined saw. As the rings are riding right over where the gouge/groove waa put in.

I wasn’t suggesting using it in this build, just that it may not be scrap.

Not that you were, just explaining the thought process at the time here. I did not throw it away, it could possibly be able to quickly revive a firewood saw and get it back to cutting again and see how long it will go.

Put a diaphragm kit into the carburetor, so far this is the only variable I see on the saw. It had a bit of corrosion inside and while it cleaned up well, will remain a variable until start up. If it proves faulty a replacement will be sought out at that time.
I also hogged out some material from the air filter as both @Termitebuffet and @Tor R say it is a good idea for performance.

So I went through his little carbeltater and put in a new fuel filter. Then proceeded to fire it up. While it started right off, it was breaking up going into high rpm, telling of more problems with the ignition.

Interesting side note, carburetor has three names on it, Marvel Schebler - Tillotson and Borg Warner. Giving it's place in history of corporate take overs.

Figuring that I was pretty much dicked with a few things, I reached out to our fearless leader Randy @Mastermind who quickly put me in touch with Mike @Glock37 who has intimate knowledge of all things 032. He came up with some parts needed that just can't be bought any longer, like the air filter cover for example.

So I did some tests on the ignition and it pretty much confirmed Mike's suspicions that the condenser has had it, time had placed its toll on it.
Coil is good.
IMG_20180406_183347612.jpg
Points are good.
IMG_20180406_191759449.jpg
Condenser failed, is out of specs. :(

So Mike sent a new one along to try. :)

So even though I pulled the muffler and took a look there and through the intake and piston and rings looked good I could still feel something rolling the engine over.

It's like the gift that keeps on giving. Lol
So a pile of new replacement parts were ordered. The cylinder wasn't too bad and cleaned up both easy and we'll. (Thanks again @Glock37 for the cleaner upper tool)

Cleaning up the exhaust port of carbon was like giving it a mini port job. Lol
