I'm trying it tomorrow with a much better grinder I borrowed.I've had similar thoughts to this, same basic concept. I've thought about filling the back side of the raker with my flat file. I gave up on trying it because there is a good amount of material that needs to be removed until you're into the ramp of the raker and can start marking it shorter.
I have almost beat chains in 3/8 72dl to waste with high drags and ramps still untouched at the front leading edge. Flat filed semi and chisel. Every one hit something hard and unforgiving.
The digital angle finder will tell me where I'm at.
