I've had similar thoughts to this, same basic concept. I've thought about filling the back side of the raker with my flat file. I gave up on trying it because there is a good amount of material that needs to be removed until you're into the ramp of the raker and can start marking it shorter.
I'm trying it tomorrow with a much better grinder I borrowed.
I have almost beat chains in 3/8 72dl to waste with high drags and ramps still untouched at the front leading edge. Flat filed semi and chisel. Every one hit something hard and unforgiving.

The digital angle finder will tell me where I'm at.

I was always of the belief that Oregon made Husqvarna chain. Are you sure the Husky chain isn't the new EXL?

No EXL and C85 are 2 different chains. C85 is wholey Husqvarna made.
Click back and forth on the arrows on above attachment and see how the 2 rock back and forth in profile.

I did some vids a bit ago using same saw, same stick of wood, Husqvarna C chain, Oregon EXL chain and some other new boxed chains.
The Hooskie chain was the fastest by a lot!
It does have a very big hook.
My only concern is being able to maintain that same factory hook...

I'd love to have a loop of the C85 in my hands. I heard it cuts narrower too??? That grind profile is almost square chisel. But the Oregon LGX is not much different, just a smaller gullet.
Seen special square files do that in Europe for the Stihl Timbersports. Can't remember the file company.

My other comparison was Stihl square box chain. A bit different raker style from Stihl.20190531_150613.jpg 20190531_150621.jpg 20190531_150627.jpg 20190531_150638.jpg

The Husqvarna C85 chain was definitely "doctored" from the factory to help promote the 572XP when it was introduced.

I think it will be tough to maintain that factory box hook. I have not seen any tutorial showing how to properly file that new cutter.

I have a strong hunch a 3/16" round file could come close to getting the C85's out of the box hook.

I normally take the gullet way out to clear chip better on 3/8" LGX. Stihl chain I don't feel the need to do that.

Jeff, I got no real wood here to test work chain. Buncha sassy sticks and lil crappy firewood in that blue trailer. These chains are going to be tested on the mill. Ten and fifteen degrees. I can do some work chain but not in this maple load I got yesterday. Twenty to thirty inch wood to mill for shelving my hut later this year and bench tops with no bugs in them.
