One extra point, I have a piece of flat timber with a large square of fine emery paper attached to it.
I always use this to make sure the base of the cylinder is nice and flush before I do a gasket delete.

Doesn't need much, just a light sand and check to make sure there are no high spots. Also gives a rougher surface for the sealant to grip
I use the flat on my vise and stick on sandpaper.

I thought motoseal was easy to clean up. Most of it scrapes off. What does not scrape off cleans up with carb cleaner. Someting like RTV is nasty to clean up.

Think it's been done enough to the older saws to reach a reasonable conclusion. It's the new breed of saws that I'm unsure of, going to be flexible as to an opinion on them for now.

How much gain on the transfer ports when base gasket is deleted , say on a .020 gasket , this is on a 395xp
What improvements are the ports to piston

I've not sure what you are asking exactly Peter. Do you mean how far do the transfer ports move in degrees of crankshaft rotation?

yes i think thats what im asking , watched a timing wheel being used yesterday , so deleting the gasket must raise the ports, how does this benifit the running of the saw

Raises intake. Lowers exhaust and transfers. .020" is about 1.5°
