Just catching up on this. Also just catching up on chainsaw stuff after about 2 years' break.

Nice work! I'm seeing some dollar signs heading down I-96 in the near future.

For those of you waiting to place an order for one of these, dont. This saw is AMAZING. Snappy, strong, oils a 24 plenty. Big power in a package as light as a 462, av is really nice too. One of my big concerns was that it would be really imbalanced internally...no issues of that at all. This is an excellent product.

A 25" stihl light and loop of C83 ended up on it, making it...the Ulti-Mutt!

Joe,

It’s early, so maybe I read some things wrong, but:

I wouldn’t got through any effort to make the case capacity smaller, it needs to be larger to feed that cylinder.

The longer stroke saws have higher piston speed, so they move more distance with each degree of revolution, as you know. The 7900 is an anomaly with the high blowdown and large stroke. The 562XP illustrates the low blowdown generally needed with longer strokes.

I’d venture to say the saw you are building will need a physically high exhaust roof (~ 95) and 15-20* BD. My thoughts are that the case capacity won’t be enough to fill a lot of swept volume, even though the case pressure is high. You’ll have to reduce swept volume to compensate for the fact.

Where is your current 52mm hybrid timed and how happy are you with it?
What do you mean by swept volume?

Might even be lighter than a stock 620...

I'd grind out the blocky chunk in the middle so air can get across the head.

What did you cut the fins with?

Swept volume is that amount of charge retained above the exhaust roof that is swept and compressed by the piston for combustion.

Thank you.

A few have been good used oem top ends

This last batch has been aftermarket.

Oem is an option but adds 250$+ to the price. Stihl is mighty proud of the p/c kits.

That is all discussed with the customer when they order.

Now truthfully, these am jugs weld 10x better than the used oem. Don't have years of oil baked into them

I figure if the plating will hold up to the welding/porting it should hold up in service. Throw in a meteor piston and caber rings, seems to be a very solid option.

These am castings are thicker. More room to move/shape the ports.
A tip about the white box cylinders. The ones with darker plating, the plating can easily peel off, though I have gotten good feedback from others they they do run. The light silver plated ones seem to have better adhering plating. I have seen two different labels used on the boxes, but it doesn't correspond with which plating the cylinders have.
