A p62 is always better with the 655 top end lol. Have you taken yours out recently? I need to get mine out. Been running the modern saws a lot lately. It's time for some old school Pioneer fun. Oh and nice saws btw Jerry.
Its been close to one year since I last run the 62 and 655, try each spring to do a good bit of cutting with them. They are ready to go when the weather warms a bit more and there is plenty of wood to go to cutting on. The P52 has never been used since I bought it, has no oil or gasoline smell in the tanks, perfectly clean and no dust, history mostly unknown.

Yeah I remember the p52 being a mantle saw so to speak. Really nice find to have.

Still spends its time on the shelf, Brendon figures it has very few hours on it, mint other than a few very light rub marks on the wrap handle.

As it should no need to mess up a mint saw like that. I made a few cuts with the p42 from this thread, but it now spends it's time on a shelf as well. I'm itching to put more time on the p62 with the 655 top end. It only has a tank through it since the swap.

You will like it I am certain. If it were not for the wear n tear I would run my Pioneers for more of our production cutting, no way do I want to wear them out doing so. I run modern replaceable saws for that, my Stihl fleet cover this well.

I have 4 pioneers withe the same piston, P39 scored piston and cylinder, P42 same. Pioneer farmsaw piston and cylinder were just like new and identical other than decomp, P39 has a terrible starter like the P40.
I put the Farmsaw cylinder on the P39 case. The recoil and cylinder cover on the P39 are one piece and as is will not fit at the base of the cylinder by the reed block so I put the P42 recoil on. It all worked out great the saw started right up.
Just no decomp now. The P39 cover is plastic and I should be able to cut it to fit properly. Then build the P42 with a new piston.

I will have to save some cash. I'm messing with an old poulan 306sa that I think I paid too much for. It is in real nice shape though. I also found a 83 year old guy that used to run a saw shop. Poulan pioneer. I'm going to meet him after the Corona stuff passes. I guess he wants to get rid of his old stock parts. Could be a dud but fingers crossed.

Look what I bought!! Have to wait for it in the mail. Paid 100 for it. Guy was putting a new pull rope on before he ships it. He said it runs great. How do I tell if it is a plus or not??

Hi All, new to the forum and I was hoping for some advice. Just picked up a P42HP to rebuild but it seems the original coil has been replaced. I think it's has a modified homelite XL coil. For some reason the previous owner also cut the HT lead and twisted it back together (?). It had a small spark with this setup. My question is, given an original coil would be difficult to find what is the best alternative? Another homlite coil? It's running a Phelon magneto. Cheers.

It looks like a Poulan coil of some sort. It be worth sending the people at chainsawr.com an email to see if they have something in their bonepile. They have a lot of older saw carcasses.

There may be some Partner saws that cross over - I can't remember.

Does a Farmsaw have the same coil?

Not sure Randy - I think the Farmsaw II does but not the original Farmsaw. They changed the coil mounts between the P-41 and P-42 and I
think they did the same thing between the Farmsaw and Farmsaw II.

Hi all,
Next question on a P42 rebuild. I pulled the top end off last night and it seems something made it's way into the cylinder and is now mashed into the upper chamber (See image 1) Also corresponding damage to the top of the piston (See image 3). Cylinder bore still seems ok, some scoring on the exhaust side. Circlips are both in and accounted for...anybody have any ideas from where a part might break off and find it's way in?

Bits of a rod bearing cage?
