The air dam inside will be wrong if it's a 36 cover on a 34. Not sure what it would do to it though, in terms of cooling.

Can you take the covers off and show some external jug pics?

I will when I can.

I've popped the jug off the other day, it's deffo open port oem. Can't remember if it was a Mahle, KS or Stihl stamped jug but it was one of the three and open (not closed) Piston was oem too. The top of the jug had threads both sides for allowing for the cover mount. Measured 46mm.

The muffler had the spacer between the port and the muffler too.

Would a ms340 cover suit it? I am struggling to find a decent 034 cylinder cover.

The front of the cover. There's an air dam that sits over the top fins. The 034 has a taller one. The 036/360 has an extended second fin, so the 036 cover has a shorter dam. Your dam is likely sitting 1/4" above your jug.

If you measured it to be 46mm, then it is. No need for anything further.

034 covers are easy to find on eBay in the states.

Decent ones are few and far between over here (the one in the image is the only one I can find and I think it was used as a chew toy to a puppy)

So what your saying is there will be air loss before it gets to the other side of the cylinder where it is supposed to exit.

Doc, you seem one in the know, why did they do a limited run of open port 034's. And are they any good. Still building the saw so I have not had chance to run it yet. Just wondering..

Got the was 036 (actually 034) running with a 20" last night.
Set the screws to 1 and 1/4 on each. Seems rich but revs up and 4 strokes nicely. Will tune it at the weekend in some wood. Weighs about the same as the 357xp feels more durable. Can't comment more than that.
