So I got this saw a few weeks ago for some work I did. Had a problem with the first cylinder kit so I got the second one I ordered Thursday night. Went out today and got her all back together. It was in pretty rough shape after I tore into her. Stripped out screw holes, missing screws but she’s in one piece now.
I ripped it all the way down, I didn’t split the cases but it was down that far. Bearings and seals were good so I put a fresh top end, fixed the stripped out screw holes, and some parts in the lever brake section. The band was broke and the spring up top right under the brake handle was broke. So I replaced all that, what a pain. Rebuilt the carb, cleaned every part and here’s what I have, A fresh 395xp.
Haven’t started it up yet gonna give everything time to seal and fire it up in the morning. First saw I ever tore all the way down and rebuilt. Had fun and can’t wait to tear into the 372’s I got in the same trade. Here’s some pics of her sitting next to her sister saw, and a couple befores. She’s the one with no decomp ;)

How's she run??
Runs great, probably got 10 or more cords on her now. Took of the exhaust and looked in the cylinder you can still see the hash marks and everything looks like new. On the case I put some inserts with jb weld. One of them didn’t hold, where the whole case was broken off. Gonna try again on that one. I’ll take some pics of what I did tomorrow.

How did you fix the stripped top cover screw holes?
I put these inserts with 1/4 20 Allen screws. Drilled them out & Jb welded them in, but the one came out. The case is totally broke off right there, so I have to figure out how I can wrap it there. I think I’m gonna try fiberglass mesh with resin. Them maybe something over that. Only thing that sucks is I have to take off the tray and the easiest way to get that out is cylinder comes up. Then new gasket since I glued this one down. The other ones are holding up well so 2 out of 3 so far I’ll take it.

I thought those looked like 1/4-20 rivnuts. I weld those bosses up, reshape and tap them often.

No not yet, was thinking about it but I might have to invest in some good earplugs first.
That's a good idea. At work I use earplugs plus the earmuffs on my helmet.
