I recently purchased several husky 395xp saws from a local logger. The one I'm currently working on has the carb off of it and I have several different carbs laying here I could use. Not sure if anyone of them would be better then the other. Hopefully one of you gents that are more carb savvy then me can point me in the right direction.

The first carb and what I believe came on this saw originally is a....

Walbro WJ115

I also have a Walbro WJ116. I have no idea where I got this one ir what it came off of but it's almost identical in appearance

And last I have a Walbro RWJ4A. Also no idea what that came off of either.

I assume any of these will have to be rebuilt.

Thanks in advance for the help.

115 or 116 should be fine. The RWJ is for a 372 xtorq. The bore is adequate but the jet is too small and oriented poorly.

The 115 and 116 are from the 385 and 390. These might work alright. The hole in the choke mechanism is larger for the plastic 390 choke lever but it can be soldered shut and redrilled.

Rwj is from a 372 xtorq

Personally I’d hunt for the 395 Tilly for a few $ used. HS-298a

It would appear that the other two 395xp saws I got from the same guy that are running are both equipped with the WJ115....BUT they don't seem like they run that great. Possibly because the WJ115 is a 390xp carb?? Now I wonder why someone would go through the trouble of putting 390 carbs on their entire fleet of 395's

I could be wrong about that carburetor but that’s what the info said that I looked up. I believe the Walbro number is a 118 and the Tillotson number is 298 off the top of my head

Tilly 298 is the best carb for the 395 I think. The Walbro runs ok but has a flatter fuel curve.

I may have misspoke earlier on the 115. Every resource I look at now says it was for the 395. I must have had a typo earlier

So the WJ115 must be a stock 395xp carb and the WJ116 is most likely a 385/390xp carb. The RWJ4A is for sure a 372XT carb. That is what I'm taking away from this. So find a rebuild kit for one of the WJ115 carbs and send it.

As always fellas...thank you for the help.

Ok...I've tried both of the WJ115 carbs and a new fuel filter and fresh gas. I get the same result no matter which carb I use. The saw will start up for about half a second and die. Every, single, pull that's the result. I've tried tuning but the carbs have the limiter caps still on them. So I can't imagine it's to far out of tune.
Any ideas?? I'm drawing a blank. Every time I've ever had this happen a carb swap fixed the issue

Vent still venting? Fuel line kinked or leaking? Fuel filter flowing? Crankcase leaking?

I'll recheck all of my fuel and impulse lines in the morning. I know it's got to be something simple that I've just over looked.

I agree with the impulse diagnostic. Check to make sure the barb into the cylinder isn't clogged, someone could have used sealant on the base and accidentally plugged the impulse line.

395 carbs are the Walbro WJ-115 and WJ-119 or the Tilotson options were the HS-298A and HS-300A.

385/390s had the Wlabor WJ-116 or the Tilotson HS-296A.

Well this is what I've found so far...the impulse line was good. The carb however is suspect but I've never seen a diaphragm actually get the edge where it meets the lever to control the float valve chipped or just worn off half way around it. Not sure if you guys will be able to zoom in and see what I'm talking about or not.

That will mess with stuff. Time to put a kit in a carb.

I finally got it fixed about 15 minutes ago. Used parts out of a 390 carb. Went ahead and did a vacuum/pressure test on it while it was down that far just to cover all my bases. Everything checked out. Slapped the carb back together with a good float setup and diaphragm and it popped right off.

What a good thread.

@S&S_Work_Saws if you end up with an extra air conductor I could use one. OEM is $50 and AM $15. Price disparity seems too great.
