I don’t want to replace a piston in a clamshell anymore than I have to.

I don't dislike working on this saw, I hate it. What were the Germans thinking when they designed this POS?

Thankfully, I'm rebuilding a mower at the moment so I've got some time to store up some gumption to tear into the 029.

Step away from the bench, deep breaths.

I have some farm saws coming. They are going to be good mix with what I already have.

The first thing to know is the early saws, excluding 029 45mm, never had one, the port timing is different. 0 vs MS are different to. 310 has bigger runners than an 039 or ms390. 029S has the shortest blowdown.

They were thinking "God I hope there isn't a husky dealer around"

1127’s are simple to work on.

I don't mind working on them either. I had the cylinder off mine in under 20 minutes. I could have had it off a little a quicker but I tried taking a shortcut on get the wiring unhooked. Once you get the rear handle off and the wrap handle it is like working on a pro grade saw.

Sooooo, what you’re saying is...take everything off around the cylinder, and it is easy to get to? Well, that’s a relief!! ;)

Pop a few plugs out, then maybe 8 screws (all impact stuff) and wrap handle and rear handle are off.

@Fruecrue How much did you advance the timing? I tried it in the past and tired it on this saw I'm working on now. Both times it did nothing. I went 1/3 of the key this time.

Is the goal here to see what this custom piston can do for a 039/390 or to see how strong you can build said saw? My point is that if you don't work from a known baseline, you have no idea what the piston actually did.
