There you guys go, making rational statements and all in an ass itching thread.

I don't wanna start *b-wording again about why my 462s didn't come with airplane wings.
Heck
My MoFo 261 can do that

You need a MoFo 261, problems solved

I have enough ported 261s...

I voted 550mk2. I had another one on my bench today. 2019 build date. Same issues I’ve seen on other 550’s. Flywheel side bearing fails and takes out the crank seal. There is a mark 2 service bulletin on the issue. The air filters also do a nice job of letting debris inside.

I actually went out this week and I got hands on with the 550xp mk2 from the husky dealer. It was a half wrap with 16" bar. I had read and watched a lot of videos praising it. But it was kind of of a let down. Now seeing the failures, kinda glad I'm staying away.

Generally Stihl saws are being overrated compared to more affordable brands.

Is a Stihl truly twice as good as a comparable product of a competing brand at half the price?!

Just saying, Stihl as a chainsaw brand is like iPhone in the smartphone market.
Sucks Stihl costs you double there, here a husky 572 is within 100$ of the ms462. So either overpriced husky or underpriced Stihl your choice. Dolmar dealer in area went under and guess it doesn’t matter since they won’t be for sale anymore anyway.

I have posted local Stihl dealer quote prices and catalog prices numerous times, some members inquired prices through PM's - generally Stihl chainsaws are 300 to 500$ more expensive here in Croatia than elsewhere in Europe and the US.
Why?
F-em, I don't care, I don't need nor want any.

It will be a shame regarding Makita suspending production of Dolmar chainsaws.
But again, F-em (Makita) too, I dare say I got enough saws to last me the remainder of my lifetime.

I don’t agree with the saw being worth more or less depending on country is stupid

I am a little disappointed that Stihl released the 881 without FI when the technology is already in place. I always thought of that platform as the pinnacle saw and it just might be the that Stihl doesn't sell that many and didn't want to invest in engineering the electronics, but half azzing it just looks lazy.

I voted for the 550 ,only because all of my experience with them has been disappointing ,starting with the Mark1 models.
I never found them to be better than other 50cc saws in the same case and with the fact that the ones we had wouldn't idle (or start) pretty much set the tone for me.
Being open minded I asked my dealer about the MarkII and he told me he's not had alot come in ,and none with the idling or starting issues.
The ones that have come back are pto bearings though, so FTS !

I always guessed it had to do with tariffs and taxes.
I live 10 minutes from Towson Md where Black and Decker/DeWalt/Stanley (SWK) are hq’d. My old neighbor, a PhD EE, was the lead designer for their brushless motors. He told me that Brazil is a huge market, but the tariffs on imports are absurd unless products sold in country are assembled in country. The best way they can be competitive is by shipping all of the parts in and having assembly done in country at a local facility; ie SWK creates local jobs. I think Stihl did similar for all of the saws they sell down there.

@Wilhelm - Are Stihl prices in Croatia different from those of other EU countries?

What’s weird is I saw a gal on YouTube in Denmark comparing the 550xp, 261, and CS500. One part of her comparison was price and of the three the Husky was the most expensive. I haven’t shopped these saws here, but in the US Stihl saw are typically more expensive or the same cost as the comparable Husky with the Echo being the least costly.

Either trade in the EU is more complicated than I originally thought or companies set prices differently for different markets.

Does the current makita branded red 7900 the same color as the original dolmar ones? I might just bought one and replace all the stickers.. Not much into the smurf ones..
I did exactly that and swapped stickers not a week ago.
I wanted to buy from a local shop, but got a great deal on a Makita EA7900 at Homedepot via the web and a discount coupon.

Yes they are, they are much higher - as I have already noted a couple times!
If I were to purchase a MS462 or MS500i in Greece, ship it to the US, ship it back to Greece, and then ship it to Croatia I wager I'd still save some money. o_O

I purchase all my Dolmar (Makita) stuff from Germany, the Croatian distributer is 30-50% more expensive.
I once inquired regarding a black PS-7310 air filter cover and got a quote nearly twice the list price from Germany - I stopped even asking the Croatian distributer, lest ordering anything from them.
