Only ran 4 on that list. 500i, 462,572 and 550 MK2. For me my 462 is now a bit of a let down. It’s a good saw, and light weight, but the 500i is the true next step from the 461. The 462 is light and snappy but it doesn’t do long bars as well, the anti vibe feels overtaxed at 28” and beyond, and even with a 28” light bar the balance isn’t great. The 572 outgrunts it and the 500i outruns them all. I asked about the 500i when I bought my 462 in May and at that time no dealer had even a random guess when it would’ve been available. I’d have gladly paid the extra for the 500i if. it had been on the shelf when I bought mine. I’d take it and trade it in but trade in value sucks and I’d have to pull the bark box and switchback to a stock handle bar from the custom 3/4. Same selling used. Just can’t get enough out of it to justify selling it to buy a 500. Just my two cents

The 572 does not out grunt the 462, and the 462 is not all that far behind the 500i, it is but not all that much. The AV on the 500i is no better than that on the 462 IMHO.

I can only speak to my experience. The 572 I ran had more grunt with a 28” than the muffler mod, timing advance 462 I own that I bought new. And the 500i definitely felt stronger than either one and it felt stiffer with a 32” than the 462 with a 28. I can only speak to the saws I have handled and own, and I’m not saying that the 462 is a bad saw. It’s a fine saw and works good. It’s just not the gee whiz boy wonder that some made it out to be

I hear you. The 500i is definitely stronger, but it's not night and day.

It sounds like you may have pushed timing too far on the 462, I've had two 462's now, one I did the same as you with the muffler and timing. The first go around I went too far with timing and the saw fell on it's face, I ended up only around 5° advance, more than that and it would start to pop and loose power. Now with some of my special fuel mix I could push the timing a bit more. IMHO the 572 has underwhelming powered for it's size, the 462 is the opposite.[emoji111]

Are both saws broken in ?
Both are just getting there, about ten gallon through each of them. The 7900 has been mostly a test mule if you will, so I believe it's a fair comparison, the 500i does have a little more, but that's really splitting hairs at that point. And you know. Variables.[emoji1]

One thing I need to do when dries up, is to see how the 500i likes an 8 pin, as I know the 7900 is an 8 pin saw up to say 24" hardwood and I'm betting the 500i is too.

In my mind the 7900 was the real deal for the better part of 20 years, and maybe the last of it's kind.

Isn't the 064 also around 90cc like the 066, some small difference in cc's?! o_O

I guess there where many great saw models over the decades, but all things considered the 7900/7910 is a 2 decades old design still in production with only minor design changes.
Well, not for much longer! :(

85cc. I definitely consider it impressive that the 7900 had a 22 year production period. Didn’t they come out around late 2000?
