Some of you will recognize the handle AWOL (Alan Wolthuis), Alan was active on AS years ago, and a fixture on the Saw Hogz site during its brief tenure. Alan's wife Rebekah sent me a message today informing me that Alan passed away in his sleep Tuesday morning.

Alan had been struggling with various health issues for 7 or 8 years and he and Rebekah had to give up their country store/chainsaw business in 2022.

As I learn of any additional details I will do my best to pass them along here.

Please pray for Rebekah and the rest of the family as they try to cope with their loss.

From January 2022, Alan, Rebekah and the family.

Never Like to read disturbing facts of life but THANKs for keeping everyone in the loop.
Your picture definitely shows a close knit family.
May the Many Pleasant memories help this family through these tough times.

Wow. I’m so sorry to hear this. I was just thinking of him the other day wondering how things were going. He built a hell of a saw that’s for sure. This is not a post I can like. Sometimes life just stinks. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

Thanks for letting us know what a shame he looked fairly young

This one hurts.
2nd ported saw, 550 MK1, what a beast.
Alan, what a down to earth individual.
Called week #5, hey your saw is ready even when I gave a three month estimate.
Still remember the excitement in his voice.
He will be greatly missed.
Praying for the family.
May he rest in peace.

Really hard news to hear.

I was fairly new to this saw community and went to Tree Monkey's benefit cut. I got up to the bucking stand where I met Alan. He proceeded to hand me saws to use which I found out later on that he had "changed them a little". One was Cobey's 590 and a couple of others. Covered my boots with chips in no time!

Alan did a 359 for me and I still get a hoot out of running it. He was a real quiet, kind, gentleman with a great family, and exceptional talent with machinery.

Prayers for his family, and memories from here.

I first met Alan at the Iowa GTG several years ago. He hauled a trailer full of old yellow saws up from Missouri. I really enjoyed visiting with him, his wife and his children. Their lifestyle was one that I could really appreciate and even envy. I'm sure they are feeling loss at his passing, I'm also sure that God can give them peace that is beyond our comprehension! I will be praying!

There were well over 300 people in attendance for the graveside service this morning. There were a number of tractors on site that Alan had worked on, and a chainsaw salute at the end.
