I think it’s a shame the brand hasn’t caught on as much as husky or stihl
Yep, everyone who actually looks at the design and uses them is nodding their heads politely. Finest powerheads overall imo, from a guy who owns em all and loves em all.

Stock 660 is a slug, most disappointing saw I ever ran stock, the old 066 sure seems a lot snappier and stronger to me, I like the 9010 design but parts availability in the future is where they loose me but no denying they are a well built machine, the 394/395 case behind the oil pump is weak for sure, see lots of them busted there, good thing is new cases are available and very reasonable. For me the 066 and 394 are my 2 favorites, running a 36" or more give me the 394.

I prefer the looks of the older square plastic red light type saws to the round plastic 660, but that’s just imho.

1997was the last of the strong stock 066's. EPA regs stepped in '98 with limiter caps, smaller exhaust opening etc.
Then later on the WJ69 carb with fixed H speed.

My 1991 066Mag is a animal stock.
I put my stock 2008 395XP up against the 066 with the same 28" b/c buried in 24" spruce. The 066 was blowing the 395 away with a 8 pin 3/8 rim. Had to run a 7 pin on the 395 as the 8 slowed it down.

Yup the round tops were the start of the EPA 066s in 1998. 660 in 2002.
Red lights ran from 1991 to about early 1994.
Thanks to Definitive Dave for this info.

I find that very hard to believe

I don’t believe it either honestly. 661 runs close to the same as a 394/5 and they both absolutely have a performance advantage over a 660. Maybe in small wood or softwood there all about the same, but strap on a big bar and big hardwood... watch 395/661 pull away.

I wasn't saying anything about his 066 but I ran my stock 395 with a 8 pin and it didn't slow down a bit.

I was just throwing some click bait out here:)
Everything is relative to the condition of either saw.
During the matchup my early 066 Mag was running its best compression PSI and PTO bearing was sloppy. Saws seem to run the best when they get to that stage.
The 395's rings were just seated
in with about 20 tanks through it.

When I ordered the 395-32" it came from the factory with a 7 pin rim. So I switched it over to 8, so when the time came with the 066 matchup it didn't impress so I put the 7 pin back on.
I guess that was the reason why Husqvarna put the 7 on.
BTW when I last checked the newer 395s are factory rated at 6.97 h.p.
Info goes that the early 066 Mag like mine can go as high as 7.8 h.p down as low as 7.2 by 1995 with the newer cylinder and no dual outlet magnum muffler.
