Im going to turn this into a kind of build thread. Had some time and started tear down.
Now, if you see something I should do, let me know. If you see me do something stupid, tell me I'm a *pretty boy.

Evidently the previous owner never heard of water, degreaser or compressed air.

Throttle lever bellows is gone, fuel line is like snot.
20180726_183710.jpg

Pulled the muffler and was bummed..
20180726_184859.jpg

Pulled the jug off. Thoughts on it? I didnt spend much time with it, just got it off.

My next question is on the heated handles. Do they have spade, or some type connector on them? I loosened the top handle, but there was so much crap lodged in there I couldnt tell, and wanted to get the jug off.

This will progress slowly, but any thoughts, derailments, pointless banter or just plain sarcastic commentary is welcome.

Had a few minutes to get some more apart on this.
Wiring for the heated handles is broken up, but some new wiring and soldering, I should be back in business there as both rear handle side panels and the top handle ohm out fine.

Started digging out the bar oil, dust and other assorted rubbish.
20180729_190328.jpg

I should have tossed it on a scale first, just to see how much the 25 years of accumulated crap weighed.
20180729_191210.jpg

Need to remember to bring my puller home with me from work this week. Provided that happens, and my wife doesnt find too much other stuff for me to do, I should have it apart yet this week.

The recoil and top cover cleaned up really nice, so it should at least look good once I get it back together.

Meteor piston, AV mounts, fuel line and gaskets are on order.
Seeing that I'm this far I am on the fence if I should just split the case and do bearings or just take my chances. They feel fine, but I have no idea how many hours are on them.

Meteor. I dont recall what the part number was on it though. I will have to look.
The thought of putting a 272 top end on it crossed my mind, but the 630 uses the choke to set the high idle, and I wasnt sure if the 630 carb would be big enough, so I am staying 48mm with it.

Yes, the picture they have shows it like the one in your link.
I just went and looked at mine, and it's not open like that, it's full circle at the skirt.
Hmm. Generic picture, or will this be an issue?
The only place I found a Meteor was off Amazon. And now when I look, it tells me no longer available. Not sure if I ordered their last one or what the deal is now.

Open bottom is ideal on these but the full circle with windows (oem style) is still a good runner. Built them both ways. Used a husky 61 or 625 piston which is like the pictured one. They gain rpms with those pistons.

Thanks guys. Im learning alot of this 2 stroke stuff as I go. Other than pistons in an old Sea-doo I had years ago, I never had to go into any of the other 2 stroke stuff I had.
4 years at an independant auto shop and almost 21 at a GM dealership.
I spent about 12 years racing lawnmowers as a hobby, and built some pretty good engines and chassis, but getting older, no suspension and 40+ mph made too many aches and pains. So the mowers got sold and I got into chainsaws.
My wife still thinks Im nuts.

This is the one I'd use. It's in @Definitive Dave's ebay store. It's not a full skirt

Can't get the phone to copy a link

Yeah, I have to avoid Ebay. Or, deal with the wrath of my wife.
Back when I had an Ebay account, they screwed up and ended up having the same user name as someone else. We found that out when I recieved the email that I won a $17,000 tractor. In Arizona. Im in Wisconsin.
It took alot of b.s. to finally get it straight, and still, 15 years later, my wife gets that crazy look when the word Ebay is mentioned!

Did a quick clean up on the crankcase today. A small chunk gouged out in the front, and a bit of chain rash.

Got some parts in today. Kill switch from @Stump Shot . Thanks!

Dropped the roll pin twice, spring 5 times assembling the throttle trigger.

Now, maybe a stupid question, but the fuel line I got is aftermarket. It only has 1 flare where it goes through the tank.
If I recall correctly, the line I removed was the same way, but is this line installed correctly, or should the flared end be on the outside of the tank?

The line is correctly installed. If you tried it the other way around you could not get the filter on without doing some kind of Houdini trick I'm pretty sure.

Saw is looking great and definitely worth the effort. I’ve never owned one, but I ran a friends in the spring and I walked away wanting one of my own.
