Saw is looking great and definitely worth the effort. I’ve never owned one, but I ran a friends in the spring and I walked away wanting one of my own.

If that was the saw I brought up to Walt's, that was actually a 670. Hadn't run that saw in about 6 years, but I put a couple more tanks through it at home the next weekend. It won;t sit for another 6 years :)

Ah that’s right...my memory, I swear:oops:. Same chassis correct? A kin to the 268Xp.

For the OP, here’s a video chock full of info about your 630 and the other saws in it’s family.

Sort of slow at work today, so I got the crankcase cleaned up. Bearings feel good, so I am going to take my chances on them.
Bolted the crankcase back to the tank with new AV mounts so I could finish the heated handle wiring.

Got the flywheel side all buttoned back up except for the coil, which I left at home.

Clutch side too.

Still need to get the throttle lever bellows and see if I can get the grommets where the wires go through the case.

Brought the jug in. I noticed the intake was all loosenfloppin..
Unlike my Husky 268, I see Johnny decided to bolt the intake to the jug, then carb and filter elbow to the intake vs. bolt it all straight through.
The hidden intake bolts were quite loose.

Has anyone had decent results with the Golf pistons? I may end up just ordering one of those.

Have a golf in a Jonny 820 and it's got a lot of time on it. Ugly saw that gets a lot of work ripping blocks that are too heavy to toss in the pickup truck. I almost want to blow it up cause I have a couple NOS 920 Super top ends, but the golf just keeps going. :)

61 pistons are generally also windowed and can be used in 630's with good results. I did one with a farmer tec 61 piston last winter and the guy loves it.

Check for cracks in that intake block.

I checked out the intake block really carefully and cant find any signs of cracking, so it will get used again.
I cant seem to find gaskets for the intake online, and they are different from the husky gaskets, so I will make my own when that time comes.

It's all back together except the top end as I was beginning to lose pieces..I spent 30 minutes looking for the oil cap. Because it was in my truck. Not on the workbench..

Before and after pic of the crap that was built up inside of it.

As I was cleaning parts yesterday, for some strange reason, the saw looked like it was orange. I decided it was either from my Cheeto fingers from my lunch, or I was hallucinating. I parked it next to my 268 just to be sure!

I got the clutch cover cleaned up today and did the carb.
I also got the throttle bellows and the last few parts ordered up. I cant seem to find grommets for the crankcase wiring pass-thru's, so, being simple minded, I will likely just use a gob of silicon to seal them up.
I ended up ordering the 61 Golf piston as well.

Waiting for parts is a drag, and everything is pretty much cleaned and ready for reassembly, so I made a new intake gasket yesterday. There really isnt a right or wrong way to do it, but heres how I did it.
The gasket material I had on hand was .010 or .035 thick. Original gasket was in the .250" range, so I opted for the thicker stuff.
Got my handy chunk of 2x6, and traced it out.
20180804_151251.jpg
They make fancy gasket punches for holes, but I rarely make gaskets, so I just select a punch of slightly smaller diameter, and have sacrificed a cheap drill bit by cutting off the shank as well for this purpose.
I drive it through, and use a razor to trim around the backside where the gasket puckers.

One thing I learned is to punch all holes and cut out center before cutting out the outside shape. Leads to less rips and tears.

Once its cut out, I prefer the bolt holes to be slightly undersize, as I can use the bolts to hold it to the component.

With the thicker material, as crazy as it sounds, you can use a file to finish shape the inside and smooth it out.
Once thats done, I give the bolts a few extra spins to "strip out" the bolts holes and use a razor to trim anything that hangs out.

And then its done.

The intake to carb gaskets along with all others for this match up to the Husqvarna gaskets I have, so this was the only one I had to make.

Last parts are due in monday, so may have it together yet this week.

I figured out I'm still missing the screw that goes through the air filter elbow into the crankcase. No big deal.

Got the piston in, came up with .025" squish with no gasket.

As for the muffler, they just have a small flap that is bent at an angle under the deflector. I cut that off to reduce weight...
Yeah, not really, but it sounded good.

The bar plate I have on there is for a Husqvarna. Should there also be a bar plate against the clutch cover? There was when I got it, in fact both plates were identical. They did however look like Atilla the Hun attacked them with tin snips, a hammer and nun-chucks.

Got it all together, and it fired on the 5th pull. Pulls alot easier than my 268xp..
Then, the idle screw decided to fall out of the case because some dumba** forgot the spring..
Heated handles work too.
Only ran it for a few minutes, and will probably be 2-3 weekends before I can get it to some wood.
