A few years ago my FIL was looking around for a saw bigger than a 55 to do tree work on his fence lines and timber areas. I found him a nice 288xp that he said is now his favorite saw, lol. I gave it to him with a 24” Oregon bar but he’s running into a bit bigger wood. I’d like to find him a nice lightweight 30-32” bar, but haven’t kept up on the market for these. Lightweight would be preferable, at mid 60s he’s not getting any younger. What’s the best bang for the buck? This is mostly bucking work so he can move them with his telehandler. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're looking to save weight maybe look in to a Stihl lite bar.

Is it just an adapter to go from stihl to husky mount?

Yes you need an adapter. You also have to lengthen the slot to 77mm and open the chain adjuster hole on some of them... mostly on stihl and tsumura. Pretty easy to do with a dremel and carbide burr.

I’d rather have something I can ship directly to my FIL and not have to be modified.
The new cannon reduced weight and the sugihara is your only option then from what I know. Slot is long enough already. The new cannon reduced weight is pricey, but it’s a fantastic bar.

@Definitive Dave is a cannon dealer I believe still if I’m not mistaken. He’s a member on here. HL supply the forum sponsor sells sugihara if you decide to go that route.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but are the sugis really that much lighter than a powermatch?

Nope, not really a true lightweight bar imho. But they are way tougher and stiffer than a powermatch while weighing a similar amount. The cannon reduced weight is probably the best option for the OP, though the most expensive. Those are very light and still pretty stiff.
