Do you get many fines getting through that filter when you use it if there's no snow? I thought I heard those nylon filters were more to keep snow out, and I guess the sawdust would stick to the melting snow on the filter...but wasn't sure they would work in normal conditions like here where snow is rare...
Like I said I clean the nylon filter often enough not to worry about the fines working through.
Yup leave a filter dirty long enough you'll need grease at the base to stop fines
.
Funny how things went in the late 1980's early '90s when all the rave was first the Jonsereds/Partner Turbo in ' 88 and then the Husky 262XP air injection in '89.
Was a no brainer for Stihl to offer the air compensate intilli carb setup in '90- '91.
Here we are in 2018 and I converted all my 1122 series WJ carbs back to flat cover non intilli.
Never needed it in the first place as I still switch out my filters twice a day. I think they run better too without the intelli.
Funny how the 272XP for example ran for all those years into the '90s without air injection and with 3 screws to get at the filter and endusers still cleaned them regularly without *b-worden.
Muffler deflectors normally prevent blowing dirt blowing back at the air intake when in the felling position near ground level. Only other way I got dirt on my saws was from cutting dirty barked pine in sandy ground.
But as far as I'm concerned I'm very happy to take the time at lunch break and at the end of the day to go over my saw keeping it at its peak. Clean filter, clean out the bar rails razor sharp chain and topping up tanks with fuel and oil.
26 years on this 066 P/C and still putting out 175 psi with a low profile nylon filter.
