That's cool. I remember my grampaw made a box similar to that for his old blue homelite. I don't remember it having a lid though.

I used to think saw cases were for saw polishers but they are as much or more to protect the vehicle from the saw as anything…need to get or make some.

I actually gave that some thought. Then thought better.

There was a thread (somewhere?) About a case for big saws like the 084 and such and alot of DYI cases but nothing aftermarket or oem.
Alot of people suggested that a cheap Coleman cooler would be a good candidate for a hard case but I never saw a complete project.

Old firehose has worked great for the 42” bar over the years, I know others have done the same.

Great looking 075, that’s a keeper for sure.

One of my favorite tool boxes:


Cherry, about 5/16" thick and lots of box joinery and edge gluing. The top tray lifts out. Quite a project in my woodworking days.

Thing is, forum, I never made a tool box big enough to hold a chainsaw. I did make a few scabbards using hardwood, but I was told by most that they were too heavy, so I gave up making them. Box making was something I truly enjoyed. Here's a hip roof tool box made using 5/16" walnut.

There were several threads on A.S.

I have made cases out of old coolers, Rubbermaid style totes, even an old golf case.

Wood vases get heavy fast. OK for storage, or transport in a truck. But good, old, ugly, plastic usually wins.

Here are photos of some of the saw cases that I made / modified (the masking tape is just to mark out the slot for the guide bar, which I typically cut with a hole saw at each end, then connect with a utility knife or fine tooth saw). I have also modified / customized the rectangular, plastic, Husqvarna Power Box type cases, using a utility knife, heat gun, Pop rivets, insulating foam, etc., to make things fit.

These are some, cheap, fast, low-tech bar scabbards I made, using 'available', corrugated sign boards. I tried some fire hose that a fellow enthusiast provided, but I was concerned that how wet it stayed might lead to rust.

Lastly, a simple modification to keep the scabbards on pole saws with the pole saws, even in the back of a pickup truck. I have done this with several different brands and models of 'powered pole pruners'.

Cloth fire hose should still be rubber lined on the inside - so unless the inside got wet, it should be very effective at protecting the bar and chain.
