I have a couple 330's in really nice shape I want to go over one of these days. And it rained Homelites on me yesterday and today. The SXL is in super nice shape. The others not so much. The 360 is a real early one. And I need more 240's like another hole in the head. Sorry for the crappy pics. The 360 and the contents of the box were acquired in a trade for a small Stihl saw case. The others came in today from a customer along with a little Mac. Should be an interesting education.

Seems like ive ended up with a lot of Homies. The little ones, that is. Got a super2 that dad gave me. Found a nice newer XL in the case with two file guides for $10. Got that one going with some fuel lines, carb kit, check valves, and rerouting the kill switch wires where they got into the flywheel. Gave that one to a younger guy that works with me for his first saw.
Got another XL that had seen a little water on the inside. Cleaned up and put in a new ring that I had mistakenly ordered for the super 2. Had a set of crank bearings. Think I need new seals, since it wont pull vacuum. Guess I'll go give $6 for a new pair at the bearing house. That would put my total for it at $16 so far. Probably add a carb kit and fuel lines, check valves too. Has a nearly new Oregon pro 91 16" bar. Nearly new chain.
When I get that one done, I'll habe a look at the. newer model Super2 I also got for $10. So far, ive done better with the Homies than Poulans or Macs in the baby saw category. Havent had to part one out yet.

Fiin to start installing seals and boot on my homie 410. Any tricks or hints on the boot or pretty straight forward. I put a boot on a 330 couple years ago. Any similarity

It is really pretty easy, just remove all the anti vibration mounts and fuel line. And then undue the boot and pull apart the two halves of the saw, install new boot and reassemble in reverse order. Good to replace fuel lines when doing it , really easy then.

Are 240 flywheel nuts left hand thread like the 150 or normal right hand threads? Looks like the flywheel needs to be removed to change the fuel line.

Thank you, sir. Pulled covers on one and cleaned it up today. Dressed the bar, sharpened the chain, and right after I tightened the bar nuts I had fuel everywhere. LOL

Pulled the carb and pressure tested the fuel tank and fuel line and discovered a leak from the line that waited until I got everything back together before it let loose. Looks like the tank needs to come out to install a new one..., with the flywheel right in the way.

The XL was the most copied saw of all times . Just about every saw manufacturer has some model patterned after it .According to a retired shop owner the design was first sold to Homelite then modified and sold to others so as not to overlap patent infringement by modifying the actual engine displacement. It was from around 2 cubic inches to over 5 that I'm aware of .In my collection I have examples in of course Homelite and others namely Remington and Lombard but there are others . Poulan had one in around 60 cc's .It must have been a robust design because they sold millions world wide.

Nice SXLAO, right there!

So...., just to replace the fuel line on a 240? Seriously? LOL

And what's the trick to removing the clutch? Is it keyed? Threaded? Guess I'm just not seein' it.

It is threaded on with left hand threads, there is a tool to slide into the spider, but you can carefully use a brass drift and hammer. Make sure you hold the piston still, I use a piece of pull rope down the plug hole.

Thanks again for your help. I gather the shoes need to come off to more easily access the spider using the drift method? One of my Stihl spanning tools for their older clutches fits pretty well between the shoes but I'm a little worried about bustin' somethin' using it..., unless that's how the Homelite tool actually does it?

Took my chances with the Stihl tool in the pic and the clutch spun right off. Was worried about maybe breaking a spring or a shoe but the tool itself would let things spread only so far before becoming an actual brace/support between all of the shoes. That kept everything pretty much in line without creating undue stress anywhere. Pretty slick. Hope it works that well puttin' in back on!

received_672244769869435.jpeg A friend of mine just stumbled upon a Homelite 500. What can you guys tell me about them. Look cool, definitely big and heavy. From what I can tell it is complete. Sorry I don't know much more.
