Ok, stud spacing is wider on the 5020 than the small huskys, includes, 340, 345, 350, 351 353, 346, 357, 359, 455, and 460 maybe others.
Thank you for checking. As my options dwindle, I still got a few things I'm going to try. With replacement parts as cheap as they are on this thing, it's a good platform to gain experience.

I know this sounds like a silly question. But, only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

What options are there for the bottom gasket when you remove the bottom one? I have my normal list of suspects. But, I'm looking to be sure before I make a mess of things.

Thank you everyone.

?

The saw you are talking about is a clam shell design. There is no base gasket to remove. But if it did most guys will use loctite 518, permatex moto seal or derko.

No worries. I have the poulan version of that saw. It's fair enough for what it is. I didn't gain much on it, but it's not something I use often. So I didn't go super far into it.

Good luck Sir.

Thanks. I'm doing a lot of information gathering. Some of it pertains to this. Some of it for the next bunch. I've got ideas, engineers and machinists. We'll see.

Spend some money on refreshing the fuel system, new filters and properly functioning carburetor along with a good sharp chain...

Thanks everyone the help. I'm learning a lot getting my hands dirty.

I went to a local hardware store and they had a file that fit. I now have a quarter of a key in timing advance. Now I got to figure our how to seal up the clamshell when the parts get here.

So. Porting time. I've never found an "exact" amount you should do. Exhaust side. Is there a rule of thumb? A certain percent on exhaust side port to exhaust side piston skirt ratio? I'm not certain. Please help.
