Keith, I was looking at bowl blanks online. $20 for a piece of walnut 2"thick, 8"x8"!! You need to take matters into your own hands!!
Where are some good places online to look for blanks and figured flat stock?
I've been looking at www.bellforestproducts.com and after reading this I thought that there's probably quite a few that sell stuff like this. Have any good ones you care to share?

I've been to their website before but they don't show the actual wood you would be buying. I just like the idea of buying with actual pictures of what you'll be receiving. I guess I like looking at wood. Lol

Do you have a woodcraft store local? They have a bunch of stuff for all occasions.

My stuff has been salvaged from firewood so I don't have another source.
We don't have anything like that around here. Is it like a big box store kinda thing? Cause that would be awesome!!!! My only source right now is firewood also. Still gotta pick up the lathe from my dad. Asked if I could borrow it to make something for mother's day. He said sure. I remember using it as a kid just don't remember what all he has with it.
Then I have this bandsaw that was left with the house when I bought it. It's a shop master brand but needs some work before it can be used. New tires, bushings, and blades. Would like to eventually use it to make small boxes. For now I hope the lathe will cure my appetite for some woodworking. I keep seeing all these pictures of curly wood and then I found some in my stacks. It's just mesmerizing. Now I'm hooked!!!!! I just love the look of it!!!

So if I am cutting anymore maple, it will get a thorough inspection under the bark. This could have brought soooo much money if sawn. @Blackgreyhounds

It kills me to see how much great work goes to the Firewood pile. The forestry service down the block from me will call and let me know if they get anything that might have potential. Just after my Daughter was born they cleared out a bunch of Black Walnut, Cherry and Apple. Unfortunately i wasn't able to harvest any and it all went into firewood stacks for next year. seeing walnut as firewood makes me nauseous.....

I cut up a nice black walnut. I don't have a mill but I really shoulda found someone who did....... woulda made some damn fine gun stocks. It was almost completely black and had some twists in the grain it stood by itself in an open feild

I have an arborist friend and helped him with a large walnut removal. He allowed me to freehand 2 big chunks of the base. I later got them band milled. Sitting on a few big slabs...

Rest went to firewood.

I really didn't know anything about milling wood. Is hickory any good other than firewood?

I worked on this project yrs ago. 18 1/2 acres all went in burn piles. All hard wood mostly oak.
I did get 8 tri axle loads of logs out one weekend.

That's a nice size plot. It's stupid to waste when someone will pay to log it.
