Stock

Ported, air filter mod, and picco setup.

Just to see how far I actually made it with this saw. I think the picco may be the ticket for these saws...

Very impressive Joe. The filter mod is a clean job too!

15.6mm venturi.... opened the choke up to just under 18mm same as a 346 walbro . Used that choke plate. While I was trying to step the transition from bore to venturi I got into a passage. A lil jb weld it should be good to go.

My zama option didn't work out at all. More pics to come.

bored zama looking at choke side, bored clean into the needle and another port at 15mm

Stock zama choke size.
Was trying to get it to just under 18mm like the c3el32.
The venturi is speed at 14.6, but with that small choke I don't think it would flow better than the stock carb.

Just above the throttle plate screw, you can see the hole where I hit the passage.

My jig to hold the carbs for boring.

Think the Walbro is the only option for performance gains.

Bored the choke out from .565 to .685

And the venturi from 14.2 to 15.6

Just gotta figure out how to salve a brass jet from one of my other carbs to install. Won't press out from the bore. Think they have to be pressed into the bore for removal.

His was more on the side, this is on the top.

This is a different walbro carb than stock, but from the same walbro "wt" family. So size/shape is identical to stock.

Cool set up to bore. This continues to be an interesting thread.

So JB weld does withstand gas? How about reformulated?

This is the port that now has a hole, builders have been filling intake ports with jb weld for some time now.

Actually thinking bout melting a bit of solder in that hole won't need much to seal... or fill it with jb and re drill it.

Yeah I see pictures of it being used in cylinders all of the time. It just blows my mind that it holds up in there with the heat, pressure and chemicals. Tough stuff.

I've never used it in a small engine application. Guess I will be in the future.

In the intakes, its not really that much heat. there is ALOT of evaporating going on, so it stays very cool

It says on the JB packet you can even fix a tread by filling, drilling and re-tapping!! Amazing product and perfect for fixing hiccups in carb applications. Drill an air bleed to large...no problem tiny bit of JB and re-drill!

I went old school on the filter. I want to maintain a completely stock appearance. It should breathe, is fugly, but will be hidden.

That ought to work. Great idea.

Wonder if it would hold well trying to melt the screen into the plastic, with a soldering iron?

Melting with a soldering iron is a great idea Joe. Hadn't thought of that.

It looks better now that the JB has cured a bit. After 7 hrs in a 55* garage, the JB has set up perfectlly to the point where it's still just a bit firm and tacky. I was able to flex the screen and get it sealed in the area at the bottom. Bending the screen and expecting it to adhere when the JB is fresh is an exercise in frustration.

That is 100 micron screen. I'm wondering why the OEM doesn't use it. I don't think it's because they want to sell air Filters. I think your setup just works better joe. It will filter better for sure.

I got a regular 3/8 rim for the saw. It fits the teeth of the 3/8 LP chain a bit tighter than a dedicated LP rim, but it fits them nonetheless.

I only have a 14" echo bar from my 330T here. I do have new chains which is nice.

My plan for the weekend is adding the 14" picco and getting some pics. I know it's a bit small for the saw, but I bet it's a light saber with a 14" for limbing.

I will check to see if the 330 unlimited coil will bolt into the 490. That will be interesting.

I had heard about the screen thing, just never tried it. Might have to next time I want to keep one under the hood.

My original plan was the just run the saw without the cover. After installing the filter set up, I seen it had enough room to fit the cover.

Sticking with the whole against the grain thing this thread is about. The a/f sticking out of the hood adds some character. Might even scare off a few 026/346 ;)

A 14" picco would be a great limbing setup for these saws.

As to the 330 coil, it should be limited around 14-14.5k according to the ipl. I have 1 echo and an aftermarket coil coming to test out. Slight chance the aftermarket is truly a unlimited coil.

I'll know if it fits tonight or tomorrow night. If the coil fits, I will install.

I do wonder if the lack of performance bump from timing advance is because of the limited coil.

I need to get some decent wood to make some cuts on. I'm gonna try to make a 12x12" softwood cant just to see what kind of time she turns.

My airfilter should be fully cured by tonight.
