Looking for a new 50cc saw. Anybody running the 501? Thanks.

I’ve seen good things about them on here, Great value and light weight. I haven’t run one but did suggest it to my BIL and he bought the 4910 I think to save some money. He likes it but isn’t a big tool guy either.

I haven't run a 501, but I have the 4910 which was ported by @Red97 . It is a very stout and light saw....oils very nicely too.

Easy to start (I never needed to use the decomp button), least weight in the 50 cc category but somewhat less power than best-in-class MS261 and 550xp.

If you can live without captive bar nuts and aluminium handle, then 4910 is cheaper variant with the same engine (and different coil - limited?).

4910 coil is unlimited as well.

You can put captive bar nuts on it.

Bought one off eBay for $80 IIRC that had been straight gassed, torn apart, and thrown in a box.
I replaced the piston and a few missing parts and it fired right up. It was such a simple saw that I put it back together without a shop manual and the parts are much cheaper than Husky or Stihl.
Saw ran great and was reliable. Ended up giving the saw to a small lady friend looking for a 50cc saw. Plastics are not as nice as others but if you can get past that they seem to be great saws.

Fella inquired about my ported 4910 last week and ended up buying it. I felt all alone so I bought another one from Bruce today lol
I had a few 501P saws, they are light, I can't emphasize that enough.
As said, not the most power in their size, so if that's not an issue I would
buy one, if power is an issue, you are definitely better off buying a 4910
and getting it ported, then you will be extremely happy power wise and
weight wise.

Do you know what is the difference between 4910 and 501p coils then? They have different part number.
I’ve never been able to figure it out. Different part numbers but both are unlimited. I didn’t see any gains when I tried a 501 coil on 4910, 501 has clear plug boot but that’s all I’ve noticed. Weird

Have no links saved, but any 4910 I see seems to be faster than the 501P,
so if they have the same engine it might be the ignition module / timing that is helping them out, same with the ported 4910 I see on the tube, they run better than any 501P I have seen.
