Other than the 357 carb what other options are available for a 350/346 if I'm wanting to put a larger carb on? I'm planning on widening the intake and exhaust, and a giving it a generous muffler mod. I have heard of the el42 and the hda199 I know the 199 is prefers and like hens teeth to find with a good acc pump. I'm curious to find out if anyone has gone mad scientist and made another carb work.

I haven't heard of any particular issues with the acc pumps on 199's. I'll take all the "bad" ones I can find, lol...

Alternatives to HDA 199 with the same venturi size;
HDA 175
HDA 87 A
HDA 191
HDA 190
HDA 198

If you want to go for bigger carb for your 350, any of those 357/359 are bolt on carbs.
Hda-87 is made for Husky 262 pluss they are more pricey then any of those 357/359 carbs, pluss you need to find a solution for choke system.
357/359 carbs, if I got it correct, Walbro HDA 174, 175, 190, 191, 198, 199 and Zama EL-42.
If you go the route for 357/359 carb you should defently get airfilter and holder as well, but you gotta pay attention around the area where the choke and kill switch are, at least on 346OE it doesnt fit well without using a razor a bit :)

The 350 I am working on came with an el45 I know it's not the original carb this saw had. Was this a stock 350 carb?

Ok what parts do I actually need if I am going to put a 357 carb on my 346/350? Can I just do a carb swap, or do I need the filter and intake horn? Do I need the boot as well?

199 EPA
191 EPA for heathed elements. 198 and 190 is non EPA carb.
199 has acc pump, I've only seen pics of 198 doesnt look to have acc pump
Early ones mostly had HDA 154a ,154c and 195 ...Zama C3-EL32 and 18 ..walbro 159a seemed to be on some EPA saws in the USA...The EPA saws are not a Euro thing so i mostly see 154 and 195 walbro .There were a Lot of carbs used !
Edit: Sorry Tor...that post was meant to be a reply to : idiotwithasaw question .

you can put an 357/359 carb on your 346/350 without any other parts from 357/359.
Normally I take out the little ring sitting in intake rubber.
To take out full potential from the bigger carb you should use 357/359 airfilter and holder as well.
Buy those part used from @bplust

If I can't find a fabled 199 is a 198 just as good?
i dont know, the only diff between them is if 198 has acc pump or not, but I doubt you will feel big different between 198 vs 199, the key is still to use filter holder from 357/359 since dimensions are bigger compared to 346, and airfilter is far better compared to 346.
Dont forget that Husky used 174 and 175 on the first 357's incase you struggle to find one 198/199.

I prefer Walbros in general but that is only because most if my 2xx serie saws has them so I got used to them, MasterMind had a thread how to modd Zama EL-42, personally I want to try out one El42 myself.

I think the 198 were on "Non EPA" saws and the 199a went on EPA saws (357xp-359) ...only difference i can see.

I am modding a husky 350 to 346xp NE with gasket delete, muff mod and mild woods porting. Will use Zama el 42, and the 357/359 air filter and holder, will go full hog with Mastermind carb mod for Zama el 42 and will report back.

Way fun!

seems you are taking it the whole way!
Looking forward to hear how it turn out :)
MasterMind has several clever solutions, his fuel tank vent is also worth to consider

I made sure to do the tank vent mod to mine. I may grind a little on my jug at some point, but as it is, here she is. I tried it with both 3/8 and .325 . I liked the .325 better.
