There's an overview. The top handle poulan obviously isn't part of the Homelite group. Has saws like 550, 650, 750 and a couple other misc ones that aren't pictured. I haven't run any of them but triaged them and most will be runners with fuel system work. (ie, ran with mix into carb)
Fear, you are missing a "Big Blue". The Homelite XL 101, circa 1962, with a green handle. I have one that runs. All it needed was a new fuel line and filter. It's the loudest stock saw that I own, even makes more noise that my Mac 610 Timber Bear or Poulan 4000. However, that Homie I show above rattles the windows about the same.

If Mr. H wishes, I offer to haul them to Randy's & let you see them in person.

If I had the funds and the room i'd take you up on the offer. But i'm sure
if I make it to Randys i'm going to have a truck load with me.

I Fail to see the problem Unc!

I assume there would be some interest for some of it at Randy's anyway.

The offer stands.

Do they even make wood big enough for that saw anymore?
Yup here in the PNW there is a few big stick left. I've had my 900g buried in some big ole fir with the it's 58" bar. It has new a length if new 1/2 chipper and doesn't even think of slowing down. I do wish it was the chisel these saws really need to cut. They are amazingly fast with that type chain. Only a bit less umph than my 3100 and a bit rougher ride to boot.

Some gear drives will surprise you .My old circa 1966 650 Mac is not as large being an 87 cc engine .But it will throw the chips like a wood planer .A gear drive you have to hook it hard and lean on it .
You have to have great respect for those tough old coots who used these things day after day .

Chisel chain and raker height are the key to the big gear drives. With 1/2, 9/16, or 5/8, these machines will cut with serious direct drive speed and throw some mighty BIG chips. If setup properly their speed will amaze you. Good luck keeping up with a ported 088 in the big wood these monsters were created for. Just hang on tight as they WILL pull you into the wood.

1/2" chisel is rare as a hens tooth. I've got the .404 spur for McCullochs but for what I use it for and no more than I use it I'm not concerned about actually how fast it can cut although as I said it does okay considering .It's so seldom in these parts to encounter much over 3 feet in diameter that the 5 direct drive saws I own over 100 cc even get used .On the other hand having said that they should last forever .
Gear drives generally speaking are conversation pieces and collectors saws . Like large displacement direct drive saws ,fun to run on an occasion but not all the time .
