Found the time today to put my 281xp into some wood, found a grey box log of about 20inches, it ran like champion, running it at 32-1 for a bit for the new caber then upto 40-1.
Also picked up the 3120 I was looking at, very nice saw with so much grunt.

I finally got around to lifting the top off my 288. I’m really hoping it’s a piece of metal that fell in from the muffler but I thinking I’ll have to check out the bearings.

I can even see where the paint was scraped off from object getting wedged between the counter weights and the lower half.

If you see paint scrapped off in the case it definatly didnt come from the muffler then. Are all the screws in your carb plates? In my case the ladt time i had a piston beat to death like that it was from the rod bearing spitting rollers out. Its amazing how much comes up thru the transfers.

How does the squish band look? I have been lucky sonetimes to be able to sand the band with a old piston knocking down the high spots opens up the clearance some but not enough to worry about. Mine went from .020 to .030 still blew almost 200 where before it was 210. Not bad for a salvaged jug i think

I’ll get some pics tonight. I’ve been meaning to swap out the antivib springs to rubbers. Sounds like a good time for that.

Something definitely in crank bearings. Hits a tight spot with everything off. And when it’s tight the piston and connecting rod move freely.
