Started to take a look at the 288 and completely panicked when I cracked open the fuel tank: STRAIGHT GAS!! Shiite! He fired it up and ran it for me last night after I popped off the muffler!!!!

Strip the muffler off:

Looks ok. Tear it down some more and pull the cyl:

WHEW!! Not wasted!

Upon closer inspection, this saw appears to be in much better shape than anticipated
Glad it ain't scored. That'd be a awful way to start your relationship. Lol

Now give that thing a flea dip. I wanna see it shine!

The 041 FB build killed my ultrasonic cleaner. Got to order a new, bigger one. Will probably just use boiling water and a ton of Dawn dish soap. I don’t want to fade the paint anymore than it already is.

If it's not tore down yet a mild degreaser like simple green will get the bulk of it off. Spray on let it soak a few minutes and hit with the garden hose.

Get you some purple power and a water hose just don't use it on the cylinder or flywheel .

I like that and Super Clean. I think they're kinda the same stuff.

Super Clean in the USC turned a carb completely black. Didn't affect the way it ran though.

Avoid using anything with caustic in it on aluminum parts ( sodium hydroxide ) worked at a chemical plant that made chlorine gas and one of the by products was caustic. Bad *s-word right there.
We have caustic soda at work. It'll ruin your day for sure.
