We have caustic soda at work. It'll ruin your day for sure.

Yes sir had a guy have to get skin graphs after they flushed one pipe before they did a line break. When they separated the pipe water dumped out all over his feet. Turns out it was a big more than water.

Avoid using anything with caustic in it on aluminum parts ( sodium hydroxide ) worked at a chemical plant that made chlorine gas and one of the by products was caustic. Bad *s-word right there.

We use a ton of that at work. Steel coil runs through a huge tank of that before it gets galvanized.

We continuosly pump it into the boiler feedwater lines. Keeps scale out of the boilers.
