I like 20" E bars on my 044s, but if you Dad likes long bars (evidenced) I concur with the 28" light bar. I have that on one 044 and like it a lot.

It's not that he likes long bars. He just has trees that necessitate a long bar from time to time. He uses a ms180 most the time if he can. The 044 comes out with the older growth..

Is there any porting that makes them easier to start? Or is it a thicker gasket and retarded timing all that's in the playbook?i Iwant to get him a lighter bar (he's running a 32)
You could raise the ex to lower compression but he likely wont be as happy running the longer bar with it.

Is that just a sheet of gasket material? Is there a thickness you recommend?
Yes. I buy it in a roll.
The only thickness I can get locally without ordering is 0.030" which is 0.010" thicker than a typical stock gasket.
Another option you have is to order the OEM low comp gasket.
PN# 1128 029 2302
This gasket is 1mm thick vs the 0.5mm thick standard gasket.
Technically designed for 3rd world countries where fuel is wayyyyy shattier than 87oct.
But it will reduce compression and make the saw easier to pull over.

Do we know if this is a 10 or 12mm saw yet? Junkman may have one left over from his hybrid. They're about 2.5 hours away from each other

I have gotten rid of my 440 /044 jugs ,just have the hybrids now 52mm pistons

To the op ,the elastostart handles help a lot pulling them over ,if your dads saw is an early 044 ,the decomp jug may not work ,i do not think the piston pins are in the right spot for the early 10mm pistons may snag a ring on the ports ,if it is a later 044 with the plastic 044 tag it may be ok ,those had the 12mm piston pins like the ms440 did
For a bar a 32 inch oregon light bar feels like a 25 inch bar for nose weight ,i run those and the stihl es lights

To add to the light weight bar discussion; I run a 24" Tsumura light & tough on my hybrid and it balances and feels almost exactly like a 20" Stihl ES that's on my other 440. A light weight bar is expensive and may seem like somewhat of a novelty until you've actually used one.

Thanks for replying Brian. Wasn't trying to put you in a bad spot by offering your services, but I knew you were in the area and thought maybe you still had your 440 jugs

Is the Oregon bar the "Power Match" bar?
It says powermatch ,but is not painted ,raw metal with an aluminum insert ,the blue lettering may not be for sale anymore ,the newer ones have red lettering now ,the oregon is a little lighter than the stihl one,but the stihl one is a little stiffer .
