From another thread:

Lets make clear that the PS-5100S & PS-5105 Easy Start are two different saws with different flywheels, and coils.

Factory Coils for North America Models
PS-460 & PS-510 = Red Coil with a 13,500 RPM Limiter
PS-5100S = Grey/White Coil with a 14,500 RPM Limiter

The 14,500 Coil for the PS-5100S is discontinued and is replaced by the Red Coil which was also used in the European model PS-5000. The red coil in a PS-5100S behaves much better and builds more power.

The early production PS-5105 still has a Grey 14,500 RPM coil but it is a different coil because of the spark plug wire length. 5105 is a shorter lead than the 510 / 5100s.

Now to the PS-5105 Easy Start

These all have a black coil with a 13,800 RPM limiter.

I have a video of a PS-5105 Easy Start that I'm working on that shows tuning from way rich to normal.

Ok @166 I have 2 problems/questions. Let's start with the factory numbers.

5100S-Red- 181 143 204 13,500RPM - Fits PS-460, PS-510 (Without Easy Start) - Will work on the PS-5100S to replace the original 14,500 coil (181-143-100, 181-143-101) which is no longer available
5100s-black- 181 143 205 This is the coil for the PS-510 Easy Start - Not used on any other models

5105-grey- 181 143 110 Superseded by 181-143-210
5105-red- 181 143 210 (Grey) This is a 14,500 coil used on the PS-5105SC without Easy Start
5105-black- 181 143 211 Superseded by 181-143-212 - Used on PS-5105C With Easy Start

S=Speed - 14,500
SC = Speed + Cat
C= Cat

So problem one. Mines a brand new 5105 easy start. With the 181 143 211 black. I've found out the 181 143 204-red-5100s dosnt work. So does any of the red higher limited coils work?.

Question 2.
I have a customer needing a coil. His saw has the 181-143-110-grey-5105. What coil will work for him.
I'm hoping the 181 143 204 will as I have one. Lol.

Thank you for your help!

So this is a PS-5105SC? Standard recoil & flat black hood?

The 181-143-204 will work but the coil lead will be longer and will need to be rerouted. 181-143-210 is recommended.
