I have a PS-5105 with easy-start that needs a new coil. The saw is a 2012 model with black coil and green coloured wire. I know there have been issues when using coil from 5100 on a 5105, but what coil should i use in this saw? red, grey, yellow, black?

Question two, is there any chance to remove the easy start junk and use the standard start-mechanism from 5100? What parts do I need?

On question #2 I believe you need the cover and starter pawls from the non easy start. I looked into it a year or so ago.

Dont know about the coils but I agree the easy start feature, although it works well, is unnecessary. It adds weight and width to the saw. I've never looked into converting it over to the non easy start, maybe someone here will chime in if they have.

Thank you for answer. I've also noticed the flywheels are different so I might need that one too, but what about the crank? I see there is two part numbers on this too. Can it be different ignition point on the flywheels?

I have found 3 different part numbers on coil for PS5105 with EasyStart. 181143211, 181143212, and 181143213. Does anyone know which one I should buy?

I just signed on, I'm assuming you found a coil that would work. The 5105 easy start was introduced on March 1st 2010 and was a PS-5105C. The C stood Catalytic muffler All 3 of the coils you mentioned will work. Makita has recently introduced a new coil manfactured by Prufrex that has made starting a bit easier and it is a 13,800 rpm coil the part number is 181-143-214 and a guy in Estonia is stocking them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2041408990...mHygJ2TnvICAuMn/FnSMvs+2nS|tkp:Bk9SR5aH25SmYQ
