Part of the problem with building saws out of boxes that were previously used as parts saws, is you didn't see the puzzle before you have to put it together... I have the saw all together, but this section on the tank bottom gives me a question. I have looked at the IPL and it is not very clear. I have bolt holes on both sides of the crankcase with corresponding notches in the fuel tank. It would appear that a buffer should go here. I have these two screws and they seem like they should be there, but maybe not... anyone care to flip their 395 upside down and snap a quick picture for me? Thanks!IMG_20161202_220527345.jpg

Those are limit screws i think theres 3 or 4 on a 395 they just limit the travel of the tank along the case whenever u yank or pull on saw while cutting

Thanks guys. Seems odd to have that metal piece in such close proximity to that plastic tank. I would be wary that it would eventually wear a hole in the tank. I'll put them in. Thanks again!

I picked up a used 395 for a fair price.

I asked Jason about it when I was about to purchase it. He said:

"If it's missing a bunch of bolts and feels like it's gonna fall apart when you pick it up, but still runs, that's a normal one that hadn't been played with too much"

Still makes me laugh.

I forgot that you had it,have you ran it any?

I really like a 394/5 and loose or missing bolts don't bother me but the outboard clutch is a pain and the chain adjuster is also, that is if it's there at all.

It really should never touch unless your prying on a dull chain or a mount is broke.

Most of them I see don't have them anymore

Get a good strong magnet on a stick. Saves your back when picking up the screws that fall out. Lol

Mine touch the edge of the tank, not the radius. They appear to have had something on them at one time as they are worn shiny. I would assume it was the rubber piece as shown in the photo above. The saw is most likely going to a tree service. Those guys will keep running it until the cut is made or the saw is destroyed. Whichever comes first.
