I gotta give you some serious props Steve. When I saw the pictures of the cracked frame, and rusty old truck, I never gave this thread much more thought. Once I checked back in....I was pretty damn impressed. I'm looking forward to seeing you finish this thing up.

Thanks Randy! You're not the only one that has had doubts with this project early on. Alot of my family though the same. Even my Grandpa!

I'm just glad we're all having fun in between "Progress" updates :D.

Everyone has been a great help helping me with stuff i have not done before. Or sharing great tips for a better product. Hell, i had no idea untill last night weldable primer was a real thing!

No brand preference really. It's all pretty much the same stuff. Hopefully they have it near your work.

Ok, back to our regularly scheduled programming...

I had a few ideas to get the other holes in the firewall for the parking brake, wire harness, and pcm. Decided it would be much eaiser to cut that section of firewall out and graft it to the new cab. I have all the firewall trimmed and its looking good. I still have to trim the blue firewall piece but not till i get some location holes drilled for bolts. I am centering everything off the brake booster holes as it is the only holes common to everything on bothe cabs.

Got the hump in the "A" pillar figured out. A little cutting, bending, hammering and it is ready to be welded. It has to be flush to fit my 1988 dash and parking brake ratchet.20190318_183623_HDR.jpg 20190319_195358.jpg 20190319_195410_HDR.jpg 20190319_195625.jpg

Building up heavy? Either speed up your movement or slow down your wire speed.
If your not experiencing burn through could maybe up your heat too.

I was experimenting with wire speed. Then heat. Problem i had was keeping a good puddle. Cooled too fast i thought. I am using harbor freight vulcan solid .030 wire. My welds are solid woth no worm holes. Found i needed to weld top to bottom insted of bottom to top like my flux wire. Also was moving too slow. Had a good handle on it by the time i had it stuck together.
