I’ve recently acquired a 084av in excellent shape for its age. I plan on doing the 880 brake handle conversion since mine is broke. I know some parts are hard to find and expensive. Are there any weak points to watch out for on these?

First off no expert here. But the couple I had apart spun the PTO side main bearing in the case half. I suspect it was due to long bars, high loads, and heat. So my suggestion is to inspect clutch coloring for heat stress, pull clutch, and pressure test crankcase. Soap the bearing/seal down and look for leaks. Turn it over while doing this.

Ok thanks, I tore it apart to clean it. Reassembled with a new plug and new Stihl fuel lines it fires on the first pull. Seems to run great, waiting on a bar and chain.

Check the oil pump drive gear too. They have small thin tangs that break off over time and if you only have one left you lose oil in the middle of the cut when it breaks.

Here's one that I owned and refurbished for shipment to a sawyer in Australia:
