I know. Which is probably why I need to find a local buyer for my 064. Sorry yankees who said I should keep it.... ;)
I would keep the 64 myself. I got to run mine last week in 30-36 inch 2 year old maple, 24 inch bar and an 8 pin, it is just a great feeling saw that pulls and pulls. If I was a production guy carrying a saw around all day in the bush and in a rush I would pick my MOFO 044...

Yes Kyle - you can justify that saw. And I agree they are a dream to use. I've only really had justified need to run mine twice in about 2 years. Once against 28" cherry, once against similar birch with 24" b/c. It just throws down the power so smooth.

Thing is that was before my 044 come along :D.

As a chainsaw obsessed computer programmer, I'm struggling to find any work for my 064, now I have a "MattG" 044/046, a very nice 036 and another 044 in the pipeline! :)

It is just a LOT of saw for any wood under 24 inches IMO.

While I agree with you about this distinction. There are guys that use the 044 (including myself) with a 20" ES bar on a regular basis.
With that being said, the saw that I have will wear the 32" bar well and thus far it has pleased me well. I love my 044 and for me it is the best
power to weight saw that I own.

I have a 20 inch light on my muf modded 10mm and it rips, but this is a ported hybrid that tunes into the high 14's low 15's.

Ha ha! Just looked that up! That counts for a whole lot of us.........just gimme a tent and a stove and I'm sorted.........oh, and a fishing rod, a chainsaw, a gun, a 4x wheel drive, a mobile phone,........
Me and the wife like to use it to keep things in perspective.

I wouldn’t be running that saw continuously at 15k +
14k maybe.....13.8k most likely.

But that’s just me

Hybrids generally don't like it there Jeremy, and I'm a torque guy. Just the way it is.

Don't think this saw would clean up at 13,8 without a long bar buried.

Yeah, I looked at the audio using spectral analysis tool https://www.audacityteam.org/ . And at a shade over 12k it was still had some four-stroking. Under load as you knock it under 12k it stops 4-stroking, and as said earlier it will produce usable power down to ~9.5k.

I did my analysis using this clip. Personally I think it sounds very fat, and I'm loading it hard through a cross-grain stack.

EDIT valid link this time :p

In the first cut at after 30s it starts to 2-stroke, as I lean hard on it. At 42s I almost bog it down (audacity says it's turning at 6k - thus almost stalled)

I'm into all this nerdy stuff, I'm afraid ;) science rocks....

Clip doesn't come up for me. At 13,8 WOT I figure you would need Dr. Al's 36 and some wood to bury it in to get a saw that 4 strokes well into the 15's to clean up. Of course this is all pointless speculation but that is beside the point.;)

Sorry Kyle, my bad, stupid computers, can't believe I work with them all day long!

Here's the clip added by me, actually checking that the link is valid.

So if you've not died of boredom yet, you'll have to transpose all the mumbo-jumbo I wrote earlier onto this one :)

Unless you modify the oiler, anything over a 24” on stock 044/440 oiler is asking for long term trouble.
However...and I’ve never tried this....some say running 0.063 will increase the oiling capabilities a small percentage.
