Hopefully they're as cheap over here. I'll ask my dealer when I pick up the parts I've ordered. All the rubber bits and pieces are in pretty good nick so I don't think I'll be replacing them. Finally bought a proper torx wrench, One of my best investments to date lol

When you put the dp cover on the 461, make sure you remove the carb limiters and make it richer, or you may burn it up. It will also likely appreciate a little timing advance.

Put some blocks of wood in the crank case to stop the crank from turning to remove the nut. DO NOT put a screwdriver through the piston pin hole and rest the screwdriver on the case. I did that one on a junk crankcase and snapped the rod.

Yeah mate, I'll richen it up for now. How do you advance the timing? Do you need the 460 coil?

Cheers mate, I might try that. Is there any risk of bending the crank?

No
460 & 044 coils are essentially the same.
You need to file the flywheel key a few thousandths. (Approx remove 0.020”).
There is a video that Mastermind did I believe that shows how to do this. If not a video, there is definitely some good pics.

I'll look into it, might be a project for another day!

Filed key (.020) should look something like this: Only thin half of it, leave the crescent side alone.

Girlfriend is at work work for the day so I snuck the crankcase in the oven. Came apart without a hassle
IMG_1260.JPG
The flywheel side bearing stayed on the crank when it came out, not sure how to get it off :confundio1: also I noticed the paints coming off inside the crankcase, anything wrong with just stripping all the paint out? All my parts have arrived though so once everything's cleaned up it'll be going back together finally :afro:

Just pick the loose paint off and run some 220 grit around in there.
As far as the bearing goes, you’ll need a 2 jaw puller or a bearing separator

Cheers will have to get myself a puller. What's the go with putting antiseize on bolts when I put it all back together? Worth it or not? Not keen on stripping any more torx heads in the future lol.

Really appreciate the help from this forum, you guys are legends.

+1

Stihl fasteners have self locking tabs under bolt heads. One thing husky guys agree Stihl is superior on is fasteners.

No need for it, in fact, undesirable.

You’ll need a 2 jaw to get the one off the crank. Don’t try to do without because you’ll separate the bearing and wind up with only the inner race on the crank. That creates a bigger headache.

As for the one in the case, warm the area around it with a propane torch, nice and easy, then tap it out with a socket into the crank case.
