Kevin, Sondre how much wood did You cut with my saw?! o_O
You couldn't get enough of her, huh!

The PS-550/EA5600 has a better filtration IMHO, it is similar to the one on the PS-6100/EA6100.
I like it much better. :)

Spray a quick lite coat of maxima fab 1 filter oil on outside of filter. Problem gone. The dust is going thru the filter media itself and not the filter neck or filter halfs like people think it is. Some wood types are worse than others for fine dust. Ash or dead oak comes to mind for our local species.

Is the PS550 a strato saw, if so why the need for a cat.
To make the various Eco-Nazis happy. Most people either gut or replace them on other units. Not sure about the 5600. I wonder if it and the 6100, or 5100 (non-cat) are interchangeable? If so a few $$ and about 3 minutes with an Allen wrench and you're in business!! If I didn't have a fondness for 50cc Husqvarnas, and a MS261 in the barn, I would buy a 5105 and have it ported in a heartbeat, as they're a bit heavier feeling, but very torquey!!

I don’t know of any saw that is strato and has a cat.
Think the PS 550 has its own style of muffler, but I have gone off it because
they are not cheap by the time they reach me.

Don’t want to derail this thread, but am now considering 550xp 2, or new 261.

Can't agree with you there. After greasing filter halves and mount I am no longer experiencing any dust coming through the felt type filter media.

Same here on my big girls 6400/73xx/7900.
On these saw the white fine nylon filter will let fines through, felt filter not.

I never had dust come in the joint of a filter, my only ever dust issue
was around the part where the filter connected with the carb tube.
Vaseline was my friend and cure.
But before that I put some breathable material over the hole in the
bottom of the carb box, that stopped the fines right away, the Vaseline
was the second line of defence.
All my filters I blow out from the inside with low pressure air, so no
need to split them, I think for people who split them then the joint
will eventually need a lick of grease or Vaseline.

I, too, use low pressure air to clean the filters and seldom separate the halves. I was getting some fines in the intake so that's when I greased both the seam and intake where the filter fits on. Totally solved the fines getting in. I also did this on my Jonsered 2152 and Husqvarna 555. My 371XP has a much better system that needs no such messing around......

Hiyo Willy. Saws look nice
I have an ash log lined up for cookie cutting, smaller diameter than that big knotty beech I ran my XS5000 in, should make for some nice vids.
The big beech log showed the saws power, the ash should show her speed.

Just gotta catch a break and get some play time, always something coming up messing with my weekend plans.
