Hey everybody, I recently got a "basket case" Silvey RSII. I ordered a SCARR upgrade slide kit, and multipoint dressers.
I finally got it all set up. I have never had a square grinder before, but I can file square by hand pretty good, so I know how the cutter should look. Not getting the cutter to look how I want on the grinder though.
I feel like I am getting into the tie strap too much, I know I can expect to hit some, but I'm hitting into the rivet.

Can some of you so pictures of your set ups?
For example, where on the wheel do you bring the tooth in? The middle or more to the front?
How high or low is the slide/carriage?

I feel like maybe the wheel is too low, if that makes sense.

Thanks!

Thanks, Ill give that a try.
I should have said "lower" your chain height. So you can roll the chain so your cutter top plate is more level. Just so the raker barely misses the bottom of the wheel

As said before, adjust the slide down so the cutter is sitting more at the top of the chain holder. You might have to slide it forward or dress the stone different to get your top plate angle back.

Also make sure you are not dressing the stone with too much surface for the side plate angle. You only need about 0.1" or less of surface there.

Slide is all the way down.

I do need to thin the wheel some. It is clearly too thick currently.

I’ll try the suggestions and let you all know how it goes.

Thanks!

You probably have to move the stone up so you are more in the middle of the adjustment of the slide. I think my stone is around an 1/8" from the frame.

I definitely think the stone needs to go up. How do I do that?

Apparently there is a set screw in the aborvfor the wheel. I’ll take a look tomorrow and see if I can adjust it up some.

Yes, there is one set screw. You have to take off the stone to be able to get to it. Once the set screw is loose you should be able to move the arbor on the motor shaft pretty easily.

demo vid for reg logging /firewood ,this setup is a little more aggressive but still feels smooth in the cut ,and will self feed good with .025 rakes, this is .404 chain so you may have to set your slide kit higher than i am at for 3/8
Video no worky.

I've also got a silvey RSII with one of shawns V2 slider kits. I need to get a pair of new chain guides sometime.
I haven't used my grinder much yet. It's got a couple issues I need to address but from the little I've used it I can say that it does make a really nice looking cutter.
