It might be good for them to put the deal of the day at the top of the page and maybe a challenge of some type or raffle for free shipping on orders.

I'm gonna give Bruce the links to these threads so he can read thru.......

I like that idea too,

I understand that. I'm just so used to VBulletin forums.

I was too......but after getting used to these forums, I like them better.

Randy, how about an "Outdoors" or "Sportsman" topic for us hunters, fisherman, handloading/shooting...even trappers. I'd like to see this not commingled with the "off topic" area if possible. If there's enough interest. Thanks

I think it just needs time now.
The foundation is right, just let it build.

I still like the idea of the use of nsfw tags, but have absolutely no idea how that would happen behind the scenes.

Seriously, quite like the place, and I'm back to wasting too much time on a chainsaw forum!

Some of the organization of this site doesn't follow logical lines-

For example- you have a log splitter child forum under "tree work equipment" when it's really "fire wood equipment."

I don't think there's a need for separate sub-forums for both trimmers and lawn mowers- make it one sub-forum. Pressure washer and snow thrower ads could both be child forums under "other power equipment."

Rename the "Operations" sub-forum to "Business Operations" and make the insurance, accounting, and marketing sections as child forums under it.

Stream-lining the site a little will make it much easier for the new user to navigate.

Bruce will be reading thru all this JJ. Those are good suggestions.

We need to figure out a good name for it......but I think this is a great idea.

A place for specs.......and odd stuff that is always needed. Like that 064 flywheel/ignition module thing that comes up all the time.
as my typing gets up to speed I have the complete 1122 ignition post with pics, the 1128 visual id cheatsheet, the complete stihl oil seal tool cheatsheet and some other cheatsheets that help me answer guys questions I can post up
redbull, weimedog and poge are some great resources for stuff like this too.

I think making extra threads before they are needed dilutes attention from important stuff, don't make a new section until there are a handful of good threads that feel liker they need a home.

also build threads give me brain-wood

That's a good idea too Ron.

To me OPE means electric, diesel and two and four-stroke gas power equipment less than 30 HP. Guys, I love skidders, D10's, Musclecar, jacked up 4x4 rifles deer hunting and fishing just like all of y'all. You should give it serious consideration and reflect on what you want to build here. Do you want the most efficient and enjoyable community based on our small power tools streamlined and basically on-topic with other experts on their use and maintenence? Do you want a global village with retired foresters and self-proclaimed engineers doing combat with good old boys over catalytic converters in our stovepipes? What does my next 5.5 cube saw got to do with being a tree hugger or hunting deer except I need a straight Oak for my stand...?

That's why I said we could sticky a few threads as they are posted Dave. I'm sure scrolling past a few sticky threads ain't gonna hurt anyone here. :)
As some threads don't need to be first thing you see on the main forum, I reckon a "past stickies" or "long term stickies" is a good sub forum.
Keeps the stickies on the main board down to a workable minimum, and leaves information easy to find.

Most all the individuals I know that enjoy running a chainsaw hunt, fish, camp, and love the outdoors. Most of the time after I finish loading my truck with red oak I take out my Colt 45LC or 22 mag pistol and do some practicing. By adding additional "non-chainsaw" topics you'll attract more knowledgeable members in other areas. Which may help everyone gain knowledge if needed or interested. Like me, I have more experience with long-range shooting, trapping, and guns than I do repairing saws.

Oh, and to me ope means Outdoor Power Equipment. As in any gas powered equipment whose use is primarily outdoors. Plus any and everything else you want to discuss, within reason ,through way of off topic or other more specific forums.
Unless your chainsaw build threads, and such, are getting unnecessarily sidetracked?

I'm with you Ron660. In my experience, you're one of the most enthusiastic and polite guys I've come across on forums. So I wasn't singling you out friend. It's just something that was on my mind. AS was founded on a principle of a one-stop tree care community. Now there are a ton of guys like SunriseGuy and a few other major-league tree men over there that just lurk. They come out of the woodwork occasionally and might post 10X per year when they are seriously needed. The place grew its roots on one thing: Chainsaws. Well it sprawled out and today it's so diluted, it's an outrage. This place will also pivot and sprawl based on our community of saw-enthusiast and power users that go out and break stuff. I like the potent efficacy of a one trick pony as my attention span is limited. Others may prefer a global village.

So far on this forum there's been a distinct lack of turtles...
