well it just got worse...they picked up the 3 diesel gensets and dropped off a 4th....it doesnt make electricity....breaker was in the off position!!!!!!!!! How much do you charge someone for 30 seconds worth of diagnostic time???

Nate,

Charge them whatever your standard diagnostic fee is, my shop diagnosis is 0.5/HR so it is $35.00 Don't cut them any slack, they WILL learn.................................

Imagine what there Fleet Services provider has to deal with?

Good grief!

I hired a kid years ago against my better judgement(my wife knew his folks). I had an inkling that this kid was an entitled *dipstick, but I hadn't factored in the depths of his worthlessness. I finally had enough of his "hands in pockets" way of working, so I called the uniform company and had all of the pockets in his coveralls sewn shut. It didn't improve his productivity, so I fired him.

My pants have been too soaked with sweat the past few days to get a hand in there.

Same here!!! Better here in northern NY today though...

Back to the topic, yeah I've worked in service in the past... These "people" walk among us... And then there are the impossible to please people that no machine or repair can ever satisfy.

ive seen a bit of everything although nothing amazes me anymore other than stuff like this, abuse it, drop it, run it over.....thats normal in my world.....just needing oil when there is a functioning oil alert light was a bit of a shock though and the breaker being off when it is plainly labeled as such was just too dumb to comprehend how they could not see that and fix it themselves

Gotta confess. Power was out. Had to use my 23 year old Honda generator. Kept shutting down. The low oil light was burned out. I still managed to figure it out all by my lonesome.

People are stupid.

Simple problems are my favorite to solve. They also build trust, because most understand you could have hosed them. The hardest part is not embarrassing the customer.

Can't tell you how many times I've had a person walk in my office fearing skin cancer because of a spot on their arm. I've either scratched the dirt off with my fingernail, or wiped the paint off with some rubbing alcohol. Much better than the real thing.

A co-worker brought one if the propane Welders out to the job site a while back. It was one that still had the gas tank left on it after it was converted. We pulled the welder off with the forklift and he told me "yeah, I went ahead and filled the tank up with diesel." The worst part about it was the propane tank was actually mounted on top of the machine. If it was not in the way of putting fuel in the tank, it missed a good chance...
