Just remember I have the MMWS jurisdiction for the North Island..........;)

Aaanndd, as a fuel maker, i always use 95 so that the higher octane allows some slippage over time. Not a problem if you chew through it quickly tho. So glad we don't have to worry about the ethanol issues, yet.

Hey Adam! How you doing? I'll take the mantle for the SI when I get my cylinder back from Randy :). BTW, how quickly does fuel lose its octane rating when it's stored? I'm thinking about in an airtight container stored in a cool dark place... Randy told me in an email, and it's backed up with dyno testing, that chainsaws develop the most power on the lowest octane fuel as they have relatively low compression and short strokes, and as a lower octane fuel burns faster there is more power released in the short time available. I think you'd need to get to at least 250psi compression in a chainsaw before detonation became a problem.

Im gonna, I'm gonna.... something. I'll find a way to disprove you. That's what I'll do. I like Homelite oil. I hate me some Poulan oil. I can't comprehend someone liking something I don't. You will go down. This us outrageous. :risas3:

Simma down mister !!!!

Well, Randy would know.
The way it was explained to me was that it wasn't detonation you were avoiding, but the fact that if all the light ends evaporate you may be low enough octane to not have enough 'pop' to start in the first place. Mercury 75/90 2M outboards are a prime example, very reluctant old fuel starters. However, the internets leading Mercury Optimax expert Don Weeds suggests running 'our' 91 because the slow burn of higher octane leaves carbon deposits in the cylinder head, outboards mostly being babied compared to ope. So there's a lot to consider. What i do know is we have very vigorous fuel specs, our 91 RON will be that and no less at the servo.

For the US readers, NZ fuel is measured in Research Octane Number (RON) as opposed to your Motor Octane Number (MON). Our 91 approx your 87, our 95 approx your 91, and we have 98 too, so your 93?

Also, sorry to introduce the outboard thing, but seemed semi relevant.

Don't forget this. I know a Dolmar being run on this stuff. Just a capful per straight gas in each tank. Insides look good still.

What, so no 'oil' at all? Just this additive? Bugger me, i would have been sure that was a recipe for disaster.

Also for the US readers, Adam works at Marsden point, New Zealand's only oil refinery. So I would consider him an authority on the subject :).

Very interesting about our RON being different from the US MON! I never knew....I think I'll take your advice and use 95 from now on!

Adam works in Distillation, Desulphurising and HP Steam.....not blending. He is not an expert on the subject.

Is Dolmar now part of Husqvarna group? If not why would Poulan oil and Dolmar be the same? Polaun is still Husqvarna correct?
Dont have a clue. Somewhere buried back in this thread Ben and I looked it all up and they were the same at 1 time

I can't believe nobody climbs all over your sh!t for posting that. I'll try some eventually but not in anything I care about till I see. You can rest assured if there was a certain name on that bottle it would hit the fan all up in here.
They can climb over anything they want, I've run the saw for 2 full tanks of this straight gas and a capfull. Saw has many tanks through it.

Yes sir. But I am astounded by it. I run a capful in all my stuff now as a result of your experiment. LOL

Yup. Just an experiment. If it blows up it blows up. No big deal. [emoji1]
What does this stuff look like? Clear? Oily, like marvel mystery oil? More like seafoam?

Try it at your own risk.
But I've run the saw. It has great power, and I cut oak with the bar buried at WOT cutting for 2 full tanks. I could not believe it. But it's true...
